Noel LaFortune Obituary

Noel A. LaFortune

Peterborough, NH - Noel A. LaFortune, 81, of Peterborough, NH passed away peacefully at home on June 20, 2025, after a period of declining health. He was born on December 25, 1943, to Arthur and Rose (Caouette) LaFortune in Winchendon, MA.

A graduate of Murdock High School in Winchendon, Class of 1962, Noel was a proud athlete who especially loved his time on the baseball mound. Though he initially set out to become a teacher, his career took a different path that would define him for decades: serving the community with pride at Roy's Market, where he worked at the meat counter for nearly 50 years. Known for his signature red coat and welcoming smile, Noel took great pride in his work, and he came to know the customers like family.

A man of many passions, Noel was an avid sportsman who enjoyed tennis, golf, and fly fishing. He was a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox and Patriots, rarely missing a game. Handy and resourceful, he could often be found fixing things around the house, tinkering in the garage, or building something from wood. He loved being the go-to "fix-it man."

Noel is survived by his beloved wife Shirley (Tuttle) LaFortune, with whom he recently celebrated 26 years of marriage. He is also survived by his sister, Rochelle LaFortune of Winchendon, MA; his maternal aunt, Rolande A. Roy; and his three children; Michael LaFortune (Sheila), Kelly Scolte (Martin), and Jennifer Dunham (Keith). He was a proud grandfather to Carly, Andrew, and Michael Scott II.

His extended family includes Jim Tuttle (Leslie) and their daughters Lori Bowen (Keith), Madelynn, and Michaella; Julie Varney (Scott) and daughter Loghan; Marcia Tuttle Neuhardt (Christopher) and daughters Erin LeBlanc (Kevin) and Elizabeth LaRonde (Bill) and their sons Oliver and Ryan. Noel also cherished time with the family dogs-Piper, Tucker, and the North Carolina girls, Maple and Willow-whose visits always brought him joy.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday June 24, 2025, at Jellison Funeral Home, 25 Concord Street, Peterborough NH from 5:00-7:00 pm.

Interment will be private for the family.

I will long remember Noel's kindness. New to a job and the area,I was sent to Nonie's to pick up the office lunch order. My nerves got the better of me confirming the order. I burst in to tears. Terribly embarrassed, a stranger (Noel) sat me at the counter next to him comforting me with staff. He was quick to remind me whenever I saw him at Roy's I survived that bad day. His warmth welcomed me to our lovely town that day many years ago.
