Patricia Place Obituary
Patricia (Pat) Place
Francestown, NH — Patricia (Pat) Place, age 93 longtime resident of Francestown, peacefully passed away at her home January 10, 2022 after a short decline. Pat was born July 6, 1928 in Wellesley, Mass. one of two daughters born to Charles Francis and Lela Boss Place.
As a child, Pat moved often with her parents, as her father worked as a civil engineer designing and building bridges and highways. She spent childhood summers in Milton Wisconsin with her grandparents, George Rogers and Stella Loofboro Boss.
Pat married her husband of 53 years, Thomas Bixby Place November 11, 1948. She spent her life as a devoted mother and military wife, involving herself in many civic activities. She loved her life in the military and the family travelled extensively. Their first base was in Alaska where they homesteaded. They were given 160 acres in the wilderness and their first child, Scott Place was born there, on the homestead. Brooks and Kim were both born in San Francisco and Todd in Biloxi, Mississippi. They were also stationed on the East Coast.
In 1967, the family retired to Tom's family home in Francestown, where Pat continued to raise her family and be deeply involved in the community that she loved. She was on the board of the Francestown Improvement & Historical Society, chaired the Labor Day celebration, chaired Francestown's bicentennial entertainment committee, volunteered for Labor Day Books for over twenty years, and was a deacon of the Francestown Community church. Pat was a passionate conservationist, supporting the Arborist Society and serving as president of the Piscataquog Water Shed Association.
She was also a long-time member of the Women's Guild, whose skillful handiwork still graces homes in the region.
Pat enjoyed tennis, ping pong, cross-country skiing, golf, bowling, gardening, painting, journaling and reading. She loved the water and swimming on Pleasant Pond. She was a consummate bridge player and tough to beat at any card game. She was industrious, good-natured, easygoing, and a supportive, proud, loving mother throughout her life. She felt blessed to be surrounded by her large extended family here in Francestown. Pat loved to sing, and filled the house with her beautiful voice.
Her song will be missed.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Scott and Carol Nyland Place of Oveido Florida, Brooks and Diana Dunbar Place, Lawrence and Kimberly Place Dalley, and Todd and Denise Westcott Place all of Francestown, her grandchildren, Scott Place Jr, Sarah Dalley, Tyler Dalley and Emma Place and great grandchildren Jack, Avery, Eloise Place, Grace and Emmett Sordillo.
She was predeceased by her husband Tom Place and dear grandson, Nevin Place.
The family will hold a celebration of her life in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can go to FIHS.
