A. Joseph Genova Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 9, 2024.
Anthony Joseph Genova (aka Joe), 59, long-time Central Coast resident, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on March 22, 2024. As a child, he lived in North Hollywood, CA. His family moved to Arroyo Grande, CA and he graduated from Arroyo Grande High School in 1982. In the last decade of his life, he moved to Fresno to be near his daughter.

From a very young age, he was passionate about all things relating to cars. He attended Allan Hancock College and received his associate's degree in Automotive Technology. He became an ASE Certified Master Mechanic and worked for various establishments on the Central Coast for over 30 years. He was known around town for his Chevy Luv that he rebuilt from the ground up. He was a mechanical genius and could build or fix anything.

He enjoyed off-roading, camping and being at the beach. As an avid movie enthusiast, he went to the theater several times a week and had an immense collection of over 1000 DVDs. He often quoted lines from movies as part of a conversation. He was always working on jigsaw puzzles with his kids; after the puzzles were completed, he would glue them together for display. He was a shopper and took pleasure in hunting for bargains. He loved animals, fostered many litters of feral kittens and adopted two of the furballs. His garden gave him great joy and he grew his own produce; he ate everything his garden yielded. His favorites were peppers and melons, but he was always experimenting with other fruits, vegetables and herbs.

Most of all, he loved being a dad to his three children, Jake, Nick and Audrie. Joe was so proud of his kids and had so much love in his heart for them. They were his entire world. He loved his immediate family and large extended family. He will be remembered for his kind heart, boisterous joyful spirit, sense of humor and his goofiness. He was charismatic and befriended everyone he met. Everyone knew they were loved by Joe; every time he parted ways he would say "I love you." He always said: "you never know if it will be the last time you have the chance to say it."

He was preceded in death by his parents, Domenic and Connie Genova; brothers, Dominic and Chuck Genova. He is survived by his children Jake, Nick, and Audrie Genova; sisters, Maryanne and Theresa Genova; sister-in-law, Susan Genova (Chuck); numerous nieces and nephews; and granddaughter, Melodie (Jake); along with a huge extended family.

A Celebration of Life potluck for Joe is planned for Saturday, June 15th at Elm Street Park Pavilion, Arroyo Grande at 11am. His children request you bring a side salad or dessert and lots of stories to share in remembrance of Joe's life.

I will miss you Joe but I won't
forget you. Growing up in NoHo you were the youngest sibling in the family of five. I was 5 years older than you but didn't mind you hanging around me and your older siblings who were closer to my age. Ya, you were curious and eager to engage in conversation and interact with others. I thought at that time, here is someone who enjoys being around people and wants to live and explore what life has to offer.
Hearing of your passing caught me off guard. But I remembered that NoHo kid is still out there doing his best. Rest in Peace.

Let me offer condolences to Josephs Family; Children, Sisters, Cousins.
Let me say goodbye to Cousin Joseph in present tense.
Cousin, I hardly knew ye. I was 16 and in High School when you were born.
A world apart, for sure.
Loved your Mom and Dad, your Sisters and Brothers.
Oh, I remember when you were a little fella. Rambuctious is not the word.
Full of Life? For sure. You kept your Mom and Dad busy. With wide open eyes
to see what you would get into next. You were a joy to be around, for sure.
One thing I do remember. Aunt Connie and Uncle Domenic were not sure
whether to call you Joseph or..... Anthony. Anthony was your moniker at first, then 'Joseph' prevailed. I liked Joseph, since my middle name is Joseph also.
Where ever you are, cousin, I hope it's in a very good place because you deserve it.
God Bless You, Rest in Peace. We won't forget you.

Love Ya, Cousin Bob

Uncle Joe was always the jokester. He made delicious Canoli's & you always knew if Uncle Joe was there, it would be a good time. I have been honored with the privilege of being his "Hanai" Niece. Love you Uncle Joe! A Hui h

I´ll always remember Uncle Joe working on his truck in front of Grandma & Grandpa´s house on Farroll Ave. He was always the first person to greet my sister, my dad, and I when we came over to visit the family. I remember giggling with my sister when Uncle Joe came into the house or from out of his bedroom, loudly saying something or making funny sounds. I remember watching Goonies, Mad Max, or some other classic 80´s movie in the Genova Family movie collection on Beta Max, with Uncle Joe quoting characters loudly from another room. Uncle Joe helped me when I was a young adult just starting out on my own. With rent being so high on the Central Coast, I needed a roommate and Uncle Joe opened up his home and let me rent a room before I had my daughter and got married. Uncle Joe is a big part of that formative time in my life. I will miss his big happy, "Hellos!" And texts on my birthday and every holiday

This guy was special for so many reasons! I could always count on you for anything. You were a great Dad to our daughter and I have been so lucky to be able to co parent with you. Thank you! I will always love you more than you know, thank you for being one of my best friends!

My first memory of Joe was as a loud active happy baby. Baby Anthony. Soon Joe became a busy kid who was similar to a bull in a china shop. And always a happy, rambunctious guy obsessed with cars. As an adult he loved spending time with his kids, his favorite people. The memory of his loud unique laugh will always make me smile.
