INDIAN ORCHARD, Mass. - Adalberto Cruz Sr., 67, of Indian Orchard, Mass., formerly of Humboldt Park, Chicago, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006, in Springfield, Mass.
He was born March 13, 1938, in Pe & ntilde;uelas, Puerto Rico, to Miguel and Angelica (Colon) Cruz. As a young boy, he and his family moved to the United States, settling in Chicago.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. After returning from his service, he was a taxi driver for many years and a carpenter by trade. For the past 18 years, he had lived in Indian Orchard, Mass.
He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and he loved casino night and bingo, buying and fixing cars, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Mare; three children, Adalberto (Marisa) Cruz Jr. of Chicago, Mark Anthony Cruz of Chicago, and Christina (Antonio) Morales of Lake in the Hills; three stepchildren, Freddy (Marilyn) Rodriguez, Frankie (Arlene) Rodriguez and Jose (Jackie) Rodriguez, all of Indian Orchard, Mass.; 14 grandchildren, Mark Jr., Michael and Nicole Cruz, Nick, Jasmine and Anthony Morales, Christian and Alyssa Cruz, Melissa and Clarissa Rodriguez, Crystal, Pedro, Armando and Frankincito Rodriguez, and Melanie, Jorelis and Pito Rodriguez.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepdaughter, Tina Rodriguez.
The visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, at James A. O'Connor Funeral Home, 11603 E. Main St., Huntley.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at the Interment Chapel at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside. Walter I. Thyng will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the family.
