Adam Lackey Obituary

Visit the Legacy Remembers website to view the full obituary.
On the evening of June 16, 1980, a beautiful boy came into this world. Adam Lackey made deep and lasting impacts on so many people and sadly departed Aug. 14, 2011, leaving many broken hearts behind.

Adam grew up in Sturgis, Mich., with his family and a large crew of critters, most notably his $5 mutt named Friskie.

As he grew he became involved in the Sturgis Youth Soccer League, competitive street hockey, wrestling and tennis. His greatest achievement was being the varsity team goalkeeper for the Sturgis soccer team, proving that even a short kid could defy gravity.

He had a love for history and enjoyed the story of the Titanic on a level that could have been obsessive. He saw the movie 13 times and even took his friend's mother.

Adam excelled in academics and had an incredible group of friends which included his "band of brothers" that were so dear to his heart.

He attended college at Michigan State University for three years before moving to Montana's Big Sky Country. He enjoyed all the activities that Montana provided: camping, hiking, mountain biking, floating on the Madison River, and snowboarding. He was also quite a trout slayer. He met his girlfriend, Kim, and his little buddy, Rowan, and fell deeply in love with both of them.

Adam will be remembered for his kind heart, his infectious smile, his love for animals and people, and his big beautiful blue eyes. There are no words that can comfort those who loved him, and his absence will be felt in our hearts forever.

He is now in the arms of those who passed before him, "Old" Joe and Marthé Lackey, grandparents; Wilfred and Harriet Nut, great-grandparents; and David and Ruth Young, great-grandparents.

He is survived by his parents, Tom and Brenda Lackey; his sister, Keri and her husband, Nick Carson; grandparents, Elmer and Betty Young; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

A remembrance service to celebrate Adam's life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at Dahl Funeral Chapel.

I am sorry for everyone that has been hurting for the last couple weeks. I just stumbled upon this sad news today.

Everyone that knew Adam, knew him to be a friend. It’s not just “something nice to say” when everyone says that he was a great and friendly guy. I wish I had been more like him in High School. He was able to be himself and truly was kind to everyone. I am grateful for the kind words that he gave me back then, and for those we shared just a few months ago. He is missed.

I pray for understanding and comfort for everyone.

I will never forget the time I got to share with Adam, playing hockey and throughout high school. He was truly one of the greatest people I have had the privilage to know. Always a smile, and that laugh has been going through my head for days. Tom,Brenda and Keri, I wish you all the best. I will be praying for you and your family.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

Ecclesiastes 7:1-2 “A name is better than good oil, and the day of death than the day of one’s being born. Better is it to go to the house of mourning than to go to the banquet house, because that is the end of all mankind; and the one alive should take [it] to his heart. “

Adam made a "good name" for himself with all who had the privilege of meeting him.

Be assured that he is in the safest place, Jehovah God's memory.

Tom, Brenda, and Keri,
I am deeply saddened to hear about Adam's passing. I will always remember him as a great frient, and truly the nicest guy ever. Adam and I were locker neighbors all throughout middle and high school, and I always enjoyed having conversation with him between classes. I can still see him smile and hear his laugh. He will never be forgotten.

Tom & Brenda,
Our hearts go out to you and your family. we are so deeply sadden by this news. When we think back of Adam growing up he was such a great guy. A guy who was surrounded by love and had parents who were wonderful role models.

On our many trips to MSU, we would drive by his apartment, and our girls would always say, that's where Adam Lackey lives, he is one of the nicest guys we know.

At this time, we feel tears and pain but when I close my eyes and think of him. I remember his smile and that is something that I will have forever.

Your friends,
Mark & Kim Larimer & family
