Adam A. Robbins

On this day, July 1, 2008, God reached out his hand to our beloved husband, father and grandfather and said come to me; it’s time to feel full again.Adam A. Robbins, 79, of Ravenden, AR, formerly of Clinton, passed away at his home from a long battle with cancer. He was diagnosed in January of 2002.Adam was born in Maquoketa, Iowa to Daniel and Armina (Harrington) Robbins on April 4, 1929.Visitation will be held at the Salvation Army Citadel, 219 1st Ave from 2 - 6pm on Sunday, July 6, 2008. A celebration of his life will be held at Lemke Funeral Homes - North Chapel, 2304 N. 2nd St at 10am on Monday, July 7, 2008, with Captains Martin and Shannon Theis and his son, Kevin Robbins officiating. Casket Bearers will be Joseph and Hans, sons from AR; Kenneth and Steve, sons from IA; Shawn Smith of Clinton and Joshua Robbins of AR, his grandsons. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Hans Robbins, Jr., Brendon Robbins, Michael Anderson; grandsons from Clinton, IA; Joe Robbins, grandson from Ravenden, AR, Ed Bousman, Camanche, IA, Bill Anderson of Ravenden, AR; son-in-laws and Scott McMillin of AR; friend. Burial will be held at St. Irenaeus Cemetery. There will also be a Celebration of Life at the McNabb Funeral Home, Pocahontas, AR, conducted by Pastor Beth Reeves of the Light House Ministries, Ray Brandon of the First Community Church in Cloverbend, AR, and brother; Danny Wittmier of the Turning Point Christian Center in Walnut Grove, AR.Adam married Lamona Marie McDonald, Lois Gibson and Betty Krolick before marrying the love of his life. On May 10, 1961 he married Elsie Mae Hing Burmester in Clinton, Iowa. Adam was raised in the Salvation Army Church. He taught Sunday School and was a Youth Counselor in St. Charles, IA. He belonged to the Maquoketa, Iowa Legions from 1952 - 1958, the Clinton AMVETS, 1957 - 1967, Honor Guard, 1950 - 1952, American Legion Post 336 in Willifod, AR, until his passing and the Voluntary Honor Roll. He has 7 Postal Awards from the Legions and AMVETS. He enlisted in the US Army in 1946 to 1948 and Re-enlisted a 2nd term from 1948 - 1952 where he became a Paratrooper. He flew over Korea bringing soldiers back. He has the Korean Service Medal, Bronze Star, Victory Medal and Lapel Pin. He also was in the National Guard. He worked at Swift and Company, Clinton, IA from 1962 - 1984 when they closed. He was a gentle, caring, hardworking man who always put his family before his won needs. He took care of everyone. Took in anyone who needed help, even with all his children, he never turned anyone away. He always said, I don’t need things, just the love from my family and friends. He survived by his wife, Elsie Mae Robbins of Ravenden, AR and his 16 children; James Daniel (Darla) Robbins, Rockford, IL, Adam Abraham Robbins, Jr., Anamosa, IA, Sandi (Ed) Bousman, Camanche, IA, Lelia (Don) Smith, Clinton, IA, Greg Robbins, Orlando, FL, Steve Robbins, Clinton, IA, Debbie Carlton, Ravenden, AR, Kenny (Karen) Burmester, Clinton, IA, Kevin (Mary) Robbins, Clinton, IA, Donald Robbins, Clearwater, IA, Michael Robbins, DeWitt, IA, Lancy Robbins, IL, Joseph Robbins, Ravenden, AR, Hans (Rachel) Robbins, Imboden, AR, James (Melba) Brocket Robbins, Clinton, IA; 32 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren. One niece, Diane Stalnacker, CA, one cousin, Barb Morehead Dannett, LaMotte, IA, a very special friend, Brandy Marquis, Camanche, IA, special friends from Arkansas; Roger and Del Milsap, Scott McMillin, Janice Bradford Yates, Audrey, Will Henderson and Pauline Melton. Such a blessing - Pastor Beth and the Late Bob Reeves whom brought such comfort to the whole family. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, one sister; Ruby Robbins Reed, 2 uncles, 1 aunt, one daughter, Connie Jean Burmester and 2 grandchildren, Cheyanne Robbins and Eric Robbins, 1 adopted granddaughter, Tonia J. Varner. A very special thank you to our youngest sister, MaDonna and Bill for being caregivers from beginning to the end of Pa’s life. God made you special. Memorials can be made to the family in lieu of flowers.
