Ahmad Shamim Obituary
AHMAD SHAMIM MD
August 17, 1931 to December 23, 2022
Doctor Ahmad Shamim was born in Hamadan, Iran to parents, Ali Asghar Shamim and Acieh Matini Shamim. Both his parents were educators. His father was a university professor and author and historian of Iran and world events and his mother was a grade school teacher.He was the second sibling with an older sister Iran and younger brother Iraj. When Ahmad was coming of age, his father suggested that Medicine would be a good fit. Ahmad graduated medical school in 1955 and came to the U.S. in 1957 and started his surgical internship in New York. After extensive training, including a Fellowship in Thoracic Surgery, Dr. Shamim started his private practice in Silver Spring, Maryland and in 1969 relocated to Laurel, Maryland. Dr. Shamim decided in 1976 to change his approach to health, and practice Holistic Medicine. In 2019, he celebrated his fiftieth year in practice at a reception with close to two hundred of his family, patients, and friends. Dr. Shamim enjoyed family trips to the beach and later travelling which included trips to the Great West and Europe and gardening, the symphony, and the arts. Dr. Shamim is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Elizabeth, his sons, Ahmad Shamim (Rebecca), Michael Shamim, and Philip Shamim; also grandsons Reilly, Will, Max, Stephen, and Alex Shamim, and relatives in Iran and the U.S..Services will include two days of visitation at Donaldson's Funeral Home, Laurel, Maryland Monday, January 2, 2023 and Tuesday, January 3, 2023 with session times of 12 noon to 2 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. both days and , and the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Mills Catholic Church, Laurel, Maryland at 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon with burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, Maryland, arrival at 1 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made online at

Hi Mrs Shamim, I hope this message reaches you. I just called the office to check on Dr Shamim and ultimately found out about his passing. I´m so sorry to learn of this sad news. I hope you and your family are coping these past couple of years. He was such a gentle man and the most caring physician I´ve ever had. I´m saying silent prayers of thanks and gratitude for the things he taught me and the care I received during the years I was his patient. He was ahead of his time. I don´t know that he can be replaced. Blessings and gratitude to you. Rest in peace Dr. Shamim.

Wonderful and kind person who prolonged my mother's life significantly after I was told to put her in a hospice. He also showed me how to prevent my prostate cancer from spreading. His treatment method strengthens your immune system so that you remain healthy as you age. I am sorry I did not see him recently before he passed. A great healer who will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with Doctor Shamims family, friends and patients. He was one of a kind. The most caring doctor I have ever met! he took care of myself and many others in my family. He will be greatly missed!

Dr Shamim was a exceptional physician. I met him back in 2005 and he changed my view on diet and care forever. I have been his patient until I moved back in Europe in 2008. Since then I have always regret not being able to go see him anymore and I have always remembered him with gratitude, his councels and most importantly his humanity.
May his memory live on forever in the hearts of all who knew him.

To Dr. Shamim's family, he was a gentle giant. I started going to Dr. Shamim in 2008. He taught me so much about health. He was a passionate and caring person who will be greatly missed. Mel, Holly, and the Haft family extend our heartfelt condolences to the Shamim family on the passing of a great and noble man of nutritional medicine. Dr. Shamim had treated our family for two generations. In his protocols for treatment, he would share any newly researched articles and books that he had read on nutritional approaches so that we could be part of and aware of the healing process. His clarity gave us peace of mind and confidence in the natural/nutritional approach to medicine.
It was also inspiring to us for years to see both Dr. Shamim and his wife, Mrs. Shamim, working so closely together as a couple. They seemed like a match made in heaven. We could feel they personally cared about our health and wellbeing. Our family honors his noble willingness and sacrifices to fight and stand up for patients´ rights in seeking natural and nutritional healing.
May God bless his soul as he joins the ranks of many other doctors who have sought to heal their patients with God´s natural and nutritional approaches to medicine.
We love you Dr. Shamim and will miss you greatly!
