Aimeé Grillet Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 3, 2016.
On August 3, 2016, Aimeé H. Grillet continued her journey to join her love ones and friends who have gone before, planning yet another great reunion. During her 95 years on earth she was a strong, loving and determined woman that touched many lives. She was born at Belle Rose, Louisiana, later moving to Oaklawn Plantation where she was raised and attended school in Franklin. After high school she attended Louisiana Normal College in Natchitoches. Upon return to Bayou Teche, she entered the work force. She married Bill Grillet in 1953. They started their family in Franklin, continued to Sugar land, Texas, and then finally settling in Houma, Louisiana on Southdown Plantation. She went to work as the bookkeeper for Terrebonne Parish Police Jury in 1958, retiring 27 years later as the last Secretary-Treasurer of the Police Jury (now Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government). Ms. Aimeé, as she was known as, was chosen as Houma Business Women of the Year in 1984. She was very active in inspiring young women to make a difference and join politics or secure jobs at political offices. Among her many accomplishments she was member and president of the Secretary-Treasurer Association of Louisiana, member of Professional Association of Municipal Finance Officers. She was also an avid supporter and member of the Historical and Cultural Society, LePetit Theatre de Terrebonne, TARC, American Red Cross, Business and Professional Women, Terrebonne Parish Library, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, the Terrebonne Genealogical Society, and Docent for Southdown Museum, just to name a few. She always had time to work in her yard, keep up with family members and her joy of researching history of Louisiana and genealogy of her family tracing it back to become a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Those she leaves behind to cherish her memory include her children, Joan Elizabeth Grillet Adams and husband Jody, John Paul Grillet and wife Cindy, and Thomas André Grillet; her grandchildren, Jo Elizabeth Adams, William Joseph Adams and wife Danielle, John Robert Adams, and Sean Paul Grillet; the light in her eyes, her great-granddaughter Kinslee Reed Adams; her sister Marjorie Hotard Blanchard; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, A. William "Bill" Grillet Jr., her parents Ernest and Aimeé Maurin Hotard; her sister Mildred Hotard Lambert; and her half sister Lillian Hotard Clement. Services will be held at the Church of the Assumption, 915 Main St., Franklin, Louisiana on Friday, August 5, 2016, during a 12:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial, followed by internment in the Franklin Cemetery. Father Lloyd Benoit will be the Celebrant for the Mass and conduct the services. The family will receive guests Friday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until Mass time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that her memory be shared with the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Baton Rouge, 3134 Hundred Oaks Ave., Baton Rouge 70808, 225-332-2999 or the Terrebonne Parish Library Genealogy Reference Collection, 151 Library Drive, Houma, LA 70360, 985-876-5861 Family and friends may view the obituary and express their condolences online by visiting www.iberts.com.
