Albert Earnest Smith
~A Life Well Remembered~
Albert Earnest Smith, the eldest son on the late Charlie and Veola Smith
was born on September 21, 1949 in Ovilla, Texas. He was affectionately
known as “Pokey,” Dad and PawPaw.
Albert was educated in the Grand Prairie I.S.D. He received his early education at Dalworth Dragons and graduated from Grand Prairie High School
in 1968. As an outstanding and exceptional athlete, he received an athletic
scholarship in football to Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma.
There, he became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.
He was also a member of the Dalworth Alumni Association.
Albert, a retired truck driver, was a lover of the outdoors! In his spare time,
he enjoyed spending time with family, dancing, barbequing, going to the
lake and fishing. He considered himself a passionate fisherman who frequented the lake very often.
Gifted with a nice voice, singing was something that he was often called to
do at Lighthouse Deliverance Church of God in Christ where he was a
faithful member for over twenty years. He was a man of unwavering faith
who sung with the Male Chorus and participated in the Men’s Huddle of
the Lighthouse Deliverance COGIC and received the honor of being the
“Man of the Year” in 2022.
Albert was blessed with two sons and three daughters. He will forever be
missed by us all; especially by longtime companion Ms. Portia Duncan.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents; wives Catherine Newton
Smith and Deborah Cornelius Smith; daughter Tiffanie Newton; brother
Harold Smith; sister Christine Chatman; a nephew and a niece.
He leaves to cherish his memories: two sons Adrian Green (Ursula) of

Fort Worth, Texas and Kechia Smith-Dixon (Preston) of Grand Prairie,
Texas; six grandchildren Quadon Henderson (Mychal), Anthony Goolsby,
