Alexander GUY Obituary

Published by Regina Leader-Post from Mar. 21 to Mar. 22, 2015.

GUY, Dr. A. J. Y.
It is with great sorrow and thanksgiving that we announce the passing of Alexander (Alex) J.Y. Guy at the age of 83 years at the Palliative Care Unit of the Pasqua Hospital. He was predeceased by his wife Donna (Forsyth); parents Nellie and Raymond Guy; parents-in-law Isabelle and Robert Forsyth; brother-in-law Robert Galloway; and nephew Gerry Galloway. Alex is survived by his daughter Glennys and son-in-law Todd Hunter; brother-in-law Alex (Elizabeth) Forsyth; sister-in-law Elvera Galloway; six nieces and nephews; and numerous honorary children who thought of him as their second father and friend. Alex was born in Broderick, SK and resided in many towns and cities in Saskatchewan as his father was a CPR Station Agent. He attended Normal School in Moose Jaw, received his Bachelors of Arts and Education from the University of Saskatchewan, and his Master of Education and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from the University of Alberta. He was a teacher and a principal with the Regina Public School Board Division for 18 years; an Associate Professor with the University of Saskatchewan, Regina Campus; a Director and a Deputy Minister of the Department of Continuing Education, and Deputy Minister of the Department of Telephones and the Department of Science and Technology. Following retirement from the public service, Alex and Donna started their own business: a technology and financial support company. Community activities were very important to Alex and he was the Chairperson of Ranch Ehrlo Society; Chairperson of Ranch Ehrlo Community Services; Member of Regina Rotary Club, and former member of the Board of Governors of the University of Saskatchewan and of the University of Regina. Alex was a very active and proud Mason and joined the Moose Jaw Masonic Lodge #3 and participated in the following concordant bodies: Wascana Preceptory; Red Cross of Constantine; Cryptic Rite; Scottish Rite; the Shrine and was the founding Chapter Dad of the Regina Chapter of DeMolay. Alex was always interested in getting to know each person who crossed his path. He always had time to listen, to offer advice, to advocate and to aid in any way. Life's work done well! The family would like to thank the medical teams who helped care for Alex: the Emergency and CCU Teams at the General Hospital and the Palliative Care Team at the Pasqua Hospital. A CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Monday, March 23, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Tricia Gerhard officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wascana Grace Hospice, 50 Angus Road, Regina, SK S4R 8P6 or a charity of your choice. Your father taught me a lot. He championed women in management before it was politically correct to do so. He took ultimate responsibility for the mistakes of his staff. And he embodied the best of public service with great wisdom, heart, and integrity.

Having recently returned from a vacation out of Canada, my sister, Irene, called to inform me of your Father's death. Please accept our sincere condolences in the loss of a wonderful person who added so much to our world. We have known your both parents for over sixty years as our Mother, Kay, used to work for your parents in your home. They were so kind to her and to us overthosevyears. As an educator myself, there wasn't a time that I met your parents when they didn't ask about my teaching career. Your Father's involvement in the community of Regina and the province of Saskatchewan will go down in history. He was a very intelligent, creative contributor to improvement wherever he worked or volunteered. May he now rest in peace for a job well done. With Our Sympathy, Lynda Browning and Irene Deck.

Glennys and Todd please accept my sympathy on Alex's passing. Alex was a mentor and colleague in the RPSD. He and Donna were life-long friends of my late wife, Carole and me. We shared their joy when you were born, Glennys. Alex and Carole shared a bond as children of Sask. railroad agents. Alex and I were fellow grad students at the U of A. Alex was instrumental in me becoming part of the accreditation of CMCC and ultimately on the Board of Governors. I will remember with respect my friend and colleague, Alex.

Your Mom,Dad and Grandma were customers of mine at RBC Gordon & Rae. They loved a good chin wag and were always interested in life. We lived a few blocks from their home and when we were out for our walks would stop by for a visit. Your dad's eyes would always light up when he talked of his Glennys. Our sincere sympathy in your loss.

Alex was a member of the Council on Chiropractic Education (Canada) where he played a pivotol role in the establishment of Accreditation policies for Chiropractic Education Programs in Canada. He was a highly respected member of the CCE and helped to lay the foundation for Chiropractic Education in Canada. I had the pleasure of being asked by Alex to join the CCE and having my orientation over a wonderful dinner and memorable evening with him in Quebec City. His contribution to Chiropractic Education in Canada was very significant.

Glennys & Todd - we would like to express our sincere sympathy on the passing of your dear Dad. I have so many great memories of our growing up years - car trips to Kenosee, trick or treating (even with his broken arm), card games at the kitchen table, sharing our Christmas treasures each Christmas morning.... Your Dad was one-of-a-kind and he will be greatly missed! Much love to you both as you grieve his passing. The Harris Family

Glennys and Todd: My heartfelt sympathies on the passing of your father/father in-law. He was a wonderful man with a kind and generous nature. He certainly missed all his peeps on Chisholm Rd and always asked me about his friends there. He always greeted me with open arms and a genuine smile. I take comfort in the fact that Donna was waiting for him and they are reunited once more. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.
