Alfred Vossen Obituary
Ray was born June 24, 1930, near Lillis, Kansas, the son of Adolph and Marie Godbout Vossen. Upon returning from his service to our country in the US Navy, Ray came to Topeka and found employment at Goodyear from which he later retired with 34 years of service. On February 11, 1956, Ray and Lavon Shearer were united in marriage at Holy Name Church, enjoying 62 years together.
Ray was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Church. He volunteered for many years at St. Francis Hospital and he never met a stranger. Ray enjoyed travel and attending his grandchildren's events. There was no greater fan. Ray was proud of and loved his family dearly and they returned that love. He will be greatly missed.
Grateful to have shared his life are his wife, Lavon; children, Deborah Newcomer (Steve), Topeka, Larry Vossen (Cindy), Tecumseh, Kevin Vossen (Sandy), Ketchum OK and Stacey Calhoon (Brian), Topeka; grandchildren, Jarod Shirley, Lexington KY, Joe Vossen, Washington DC, Adam Vossen, New York City, Sam Vossen, Mission KS, Josh Vossen, Prairie Village KS, Aaron Vossen and Jacob Vossen, both of Dallas TX, Reagan Calhoon and Rhen Calhoon both of Topeka; great-grandchildren, Parker Vossen and Darcy Vossen and one on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Maxine Murray and Lorraine Vossen.
Family will greet friends from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Monday at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614, where a rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Church. Inurnment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Great Lakes Caring Hospice or Hayden Catholic High School (to be used for the gymnasium) sent in care of the funeral home.

Larry I am so sorry for you, your mom, Debbie, Kevin, Stacey and all the grandkids loss. I loved your Dad, he was such a practical joker and to me, a kind kind person. Ray was a wonderful person, loved to visit with him at the St Francis Cancer Center where he volunteered.

My heartfelt condolences to Lavon and family. Ray and Lavon volunteered in the SF Cancer Center for many years and I always enjoyed talking with both of them. Ray was a good man. We liked talking about our twins.. my daughters and his granddaughters. Rest in peace and in God's loving hands, Ray.

I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. "Grandpa" Vossen was always the character at the ball field when the kids were little. Always a character everywhere for that matter. He was a lot like my dad and really didn't know a stranger! The Wilson boys and Emily (and their mom) will miss him dearly.
