Alfred Yee Litt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 2, 2025.
Alfred Yee Litt, 73, passed away peacefully at home on June 24, 2025, in Fridley, Minnesota. A dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and lifelong explorer, Alfred lived a full life characterized by curiosity, adventure, and a deep love for his family.

Born on December 22, 1951, in New York City to George and Silvia Yee Litt, Alfred grew up with a passion for learning and discovery. He graduated from Stuyvesant High School in 1969 and then went on to earn both a Bachelor of Science in 1973 and a Master of Science in Computer Science in 1974 from the Florida Institute of Technology. His academic accomplishments laid the foundation for a successful career in computing, engineering, and aeronautics at several leading technology companies, including Kennedy Space Center, Medtronic, Aero Systems Engineering, Hewlett Packard, Fisher Rosemount, and Honeywell.

Alfred's professional accomplishments were matched only by his enduring spirit of adventure. An avid traveler, he and his wife achieved the rare feat of visiting all seven continents - a testament to his intrepid spirit and insatiable curiosity about the world. Alfred's photographs of natural landscapes and historical sites in Hawaii, China, Italy, the Galapagos, South America, Antarctica, Kenya, Tanzania, and beyond adorn the walls of their home, serving as reminders of unforgettable experiences.

Close to home, Alfred found joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren. He cherished every moment with them - playing games, telling jokes, exploring theme parks, and passing along his passion for science. He appreciated quiet moments, during which he could usually be found with a crossword puzzle in hand, but he also truly enjoyed cooking and hosting others, often preparing elaborate meals for large gatherings of friends and family. Alfred's appreciation for nature was evident in his love of spending time outdoors, especially when he was hunting, fishing, canoeing, camping, swimming, or taking family houseboat trips. His varied hobbies all reflected one overarching goal: a desire to connect deeply and authentically with the people and the world around him.

Alfred is survived by his wife, Nancy Yee Litt; his daughters, Kori Brown (Jeffrey) and Nicole Kanew (Justin); and four grandchildren, Lyra, Kaia, Juniper, and Koa. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched - with wisdom that will continue to be shared across generations and experiences that will continue to serve as inspiration to all who knew him: the adventure never ends.

A celebration of life in honor of Alfred will be held on Saturday, August 16th at Como Park Zoo & Conservatory in St. Paul, Minnesota. A second celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 13th in New York.

To celebrate Alfred's love of nature, travel, and adventure, in lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in tribute of Alfred to the Hawaii Pacific Parks Association Ltd., an organization that supports Hawaiian natural and cultural heritage, particularly at the Pu'uhonua O Honaunau, Pu'ukohola Heiau, and Volcanoes National Parks. Please see donation information below.

Dear Nancy, Kori, Nikki and Families, Daryl & Debbie, Jeff and Family,

Thinking of all of you as you celebrate your husband, father, grandfather and brother, Al today. What a beautiful legacy he has left behind that lives on in all of you. Your family has blessed our family in so many ways over the years by generously hosting pool parties, Chinese New Year at Tam's Rice Bowl in Fridley and later at Shuang Cheng in Dinkytown.

Nancy, you and Al are and have been, an example of supporting those around you, your inspiring work ethic and mentoring those of us coming up right behind you in this crazy, fulfilling, challenging, sorrowful and beautiful life.

I will be with you in spirit as you celebrate Al's life today.

With Love and Sympathy,
Kari (Steve) Mueller Family

In loving memory of a wonderful person. So many great memories, especially boundary water trips. I think (or my mind thinks) I beat him in one racquetball game. He was a great competitor, a great friend, and a great human icon.

Nancy, I am sending you and your family my deepest sympathies. Although I did not know your husband, seeing him through your eyes was for me, an introduction to a wonderful human being. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Nancy, Kori, and Nicole, my heart is sad with you when I learned of Al's passing. I have only strong positive memories of our days together with music to join us.

Al and Nancy were mentors to our family in every sense of the word. Al gave my husband his first job after nobody else appreciated his quiet talents. He continued to mentor Scott, Steve and Bret throughout their careers. Both Nancy and Al showed us how to be involved parents while both having fulfilling careers. Wishing your family peace knowing Al lived a full life and was so appreciated by others.

Al often included our family for lovely meals in his home. Chinese New Year was an annual treat we looked forward to also at Tam's Rice Bowl, then, after it closed, Shuang Cheng in Dinky Town. 20 to 35 people would join the Yee Lits and share 15 to 20 course Chinese dinners. Sometimes a dragon wandered through, with a special gold coin or gift left with each guest. Al had a brilliant mind and so many friends that loved him. He was a prince of a fellow.

Al was a DDT fraternal brother at Florida Institute of Technology. These pictures are ones he shared with us. Al always had a good story to share and was an excellent listener.
