ALICE K. BROOKS, beloved WIFE OF RETAIL LEGEND JOSEPH E. BROOKS PASSED AWAY THURSDAY EVENING, MAY 4 OF NATURAL CAUSES. Born March 18, 1929, Brooklyn, NY. She was the younger child of Gertrude and Herman Kahn and sister to Carol Kahn Pearlstein. She grew up in Brooklyn and attended Packard High School, Hunter College and Barnard College earning an Associate Degree at Hunter College. Married Joseph E. Brooks July 18, 1950. They lived in New York City and then moved to Minute Man Hill in Westport, CT. The next stop was Florida for 11 years spending time in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami before moving to Dayton, Ohio. Joe's job took them next to Boston, MA and later back to NYC before settling in Greenwich, CT. A sports enthusiast, she excelled in tennis and adored watching competitive sports on TV. She most loved watching her grandsons play baseball, hockey and lacrosse. She studied art and excelled at painting and became a Bridge Life Master at a very young age. A gourmet chef, she was also known for her fantastic dinner parties and entertaining. Often referred to as "Saint Alice" by close friends, she was loved by all for her kindness, compassion, wit and humor. She (Aya as she was known to her grandchildren) is survived by her 3 children, Thomas H.K. Brooks (Judy), daughters Elizabeth B. Rains (C. Eric) and Victoria S.J. Brooks Stafford all of Fairfield County, CT, 5 grandchildren: Thomas Stephen Brooks, Robert Henry Stafford IV, Alexa Catherine Stafford, Cameron Joseph Stafford, and Ryan James Stafford. Private memorial service will be held Saturday, May 13, 2017. Fred D. Knapp funeral home is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers please make donations to your local ASPCA and animal shelters as Alice was a longtime lover of dogs.
