Alice Mallon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 15, 2025.
Alice Gorman Mallon passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025, in Midlothian, Virginia, at the age of ninety-seven. She was born on April 1,1928 in Richmond Hill, New York; the only child of Isabel and William Gorman. She is predeceased by her husband, Richard Smith Mallon to whom she was happily married for fifty-two years.

Alice raised five children on 74th Place in Woodhaven, New York where she was an active member of St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church. For many years she was a mother and homemaker, and later became librarian at St. Elizabeth school, a job she loved and held until retirement. She loved to travel and was a lifetime gardener, avid reader, and a good friend to many including the numerous stray dogs and cats she loved and cared for throughout her life.

Life in retirement took Alice and Dick to a new home in Matamoras, PA where she decorated for every season and holiday and proudly displayed her beautiful garden and large koi pond to both family and friends. Every year around Christmas, a small city of her beloved miniature houses and figurines would spring up around the Christmas tree for all to admire, in particular her eight grandchildren.

Later, as a widow, she moved north to New England, first to Massachusetts and later Maine, where together with her son Brian, she visited the many attractions and lighthouses that line the northern coast and seemed to get a sweatshirt wherever they stopped. Her final years were spent in Midlothian, VA where she enjoyed book club and her wonderful neighbors.

Alice is survived by her five children, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild; children - Richard F and Janet Mallon, Virginia Mallon-Ackermann and Arthur, Brian Mallon, Claire and Paul Rilling, and David and Jacqueline Mallon; grandchildren - Terence and Claire Mallon, Caroline Mallon, Elizabeth and Alvaro Montes, Rebecca Rilling and Peter Randazzo, Patrick Rilling, Connor and Kim Mallon, Caitlin Mallon and Kevin Mallon; and great grandson Terence Ryan Mallon.

Alice was a beautiful person who was well loved and lived a long, happy and healthy life. She will be missed by all that knew her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on June 7, 2025 at 11:00 AM in St. Peter's Church in Delhi, New York. Her final resting place will be in Woodland Cemetery, also in Delhi, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
