Amatul Zirvi Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 14 to Jan. 22, 2023.
Amatul Latif Zirvi of Maryland passed away on January 6, 2023 in Columbia, Maryland. She passed away suddenly after the funeral prayers for her husband, Dr. Karimullah Abd Zirvi.

Amatul Latif Zirvi was born on July 19th, 1944 in Qadian, India.

Amtul Latif Zirvi was the daughter of Late Hazrat Saif-Ur-Rahman Malik Sahib and Amatul Rashid Shaukat. She obtained a Masters in Botany by studying in Lahore, Pakistan prior to marrying Dr. Karimullah Zirvi in 1966.

She served the Jamaat in many capacities, including President of the North Jersey Lajna for many years. She donated avidly to charities such as Humanity First and SOS Children's Villages. This included building numerous wells supplying clean drinking water in Africa and Asia. She was a beloved mother and wife and traveled extensively in Asia and the United States and Europe in her lifetime.

Dr. Karimullah Zirvi and Amatul Latif Zirvi are survived by 4 children, including Nasir Zirvi, Khalid Zirvi, Monib Zirvi and Sumra Zirvi. They also have a total of 11 Grandchildren Mashallah.

She was the eldest sister of Mujeeb Malik Sahib and Athar Malik Sahib of North Virginia and Hisham Malik of Edmonton, Canada. She is also survived by 3 sisters in Virginia, Calgary and the United Kingdom.

Amatul Latif Zirvi was a longtime defender of Islam. She wrote many letters to various newspapers in the USA defending Islam. Many of these were published in Newsweek, Time Magazine and newspapers such as the Star Ledger and the Record in New Jersey. This included letters such as the one below:

I read "Women and Terror" with a heavy heart. It is clear that these terror attacks are due to frustration, revenge and brainwashing. They have nothing to do with the teachings of Islam. Islam derives from the word "peace"--peace obtained through obeying the commandments of God and through caring for your fellow human beings.
