AMBER CODY
Ann Arbor
Dr. Amber Cody Springman passed away on Friday, May 2, 2014 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. She died of complications from a stem cell transplant after a year long battle with leukemia. Cody was born in Kalamazoo at Bronson Hospital on May 17, 1980. She attended Portage Central High School, the University of Miami in Coral Gables, and graduated from Michigan State University with a B.S. and subsequently a PhD in Microbiology. She was presently working on a postdoc at the University of Michigan under Dr. Harry Mobley. Cody is survived by her father, Robert W. Springman and stepmom, Peg Kolaja; her mother, Jeannie Givens of Santa Fe, NM; her sister, Heidi Lenderink, her husband Mike, and their children, Cole, Corbin, McKenna and Macie, of Phoenix, AZ; her brother, Shane Springman, his wife Inga, and their children, Jake, Sasha, Jaden, and Lexie of Kalamazoo; her grandmother, Trula Springman of Kalamazoo and her Great Aunt, Dorothy Turner of Muncie; her long term boyfriend, Josh Dixon of Kalamazoo and their three cats; her stepbrother, Andy Kolaja and his family from North Beach, MD; stepbrother, Kyle and his family from Montclair, NJ and stepsister, Megan and her son, Rocco from Portage. There will be a gathering for family and friends on Saturday, May 10, 2014 from 1-5 PM at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th St., Kalamazoo MI 49009. Dear Mr. Springman and Family. My sincere condolences on the loss of Cody from this world. It was a pure privilege and joy to know her and her passion for life, knowledge and science over several years. While the loss is real, you can be comforted in knowing that she is in a much better place, reaping the rewards of committing her life to Christ this year and she is smiling over you in Heaven today. Cody's passion for life, science and softball is contagious. Her inspriration and scientific contributions endure. She's one of the greatest persons I knew at MSU. Our neighbors there still rave about her knowing her thru softball. My greatest sympathies. I will plant a Splits Tree for her!

I am so sorry for your lost. I worked with Cody at the UM during her time in the Mobley lab. She was a fantastic colleague - generous with her time, helpful, kind, and had a great sense of humor. I am so sorry for your family's loss. My husband and I were lucky enough to know Cody for the past few years. She was an amazing woman who always had a smile on her face and had the biggest heart. She had such a difficult year but dealt with her illness with such an inspiring determination, poise and grace. She can never be replaced but we will remember her in our hearts with the joy, love and laughter she brought to her own life and the lives of those she met.
