Andrew Michelson

March 26, 1960 - January 27, 2025

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Andrew Michelson, who left us peacefully on January 27, 2025, at UTSW Clements University Hospital in Dallas, Texas, surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was 64 years old.

Born on March 26, 1960, in Denver, Colorado, Andrew lived a life full of dedication to his family, career and passions. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Michelle (nee Minster) with whom he shared 28 years of marriage. He is also survived by his cherished children, Katie Michelson, a middle school band director at Evans Middle School in McKinney, and Ian Michelson, currently serving in the military after completing his B.A. in political science.

Andrew's career at Ricoh USA was a source of great pride, and he remained passionate about his work until his retirement in October 2024. He often spoke of how much he loved his job and the wonderful coworkers he had the privilege of working with, often expressing his eagerness to "get back in the saddle," during his illness.

Above all, Andrew was a devoted father who found joy in every stage of his children's lives. Whether attending their games, performances, or graduations, he was their most steadfast supporter. His pride in Katie and Ian was unmatched, and he relished every moment with them.

In his personal time, Andrew enjoyed golfing, home improvement projects, gardening, and most of all, being wherever his children were. His love for them was his greatest legacy.

A funeral mass will be held for Andrew at St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Allen, Tx on February 12, 2025 at 10 AM, followed by the Rite of Committal at the St. Jude’s Columbarium.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, therapists, family, friends, coworkers and neighbors who offered their unwavering support, love and kindness throughout Andrew's illness. Your compassion has been a true blessing, and we will forever remember your generosity and care.

Rest in peace, Andrew. You will forever be in our hearts.

Andrew was the person that always saw potential in people and helped them believe it even if they couldn't see it. He believed in me more that I believed in myself and gently pushed me to take the next step in my career. He was a caring and wise mentor whose advice and leadership I will greatly miss. Thank you, Andrew!

Andrew will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

I fondly remember our conversations about his children. He would often share how proud he was of them and how he wanted nothing but the best for their future. His eyes would light up with joy whenever he spoke about their achievements and dream.

Andrew was a very strong individual, passionate about life and his work. He had a remarkable ability to pass on his knowledge to everyone who crossed his path, leaving a lasting impact on many.

Please know that my thoughts are with you and your family.

A letter to Ian, from my conversations with Andrew.

I'm writing this with a heart overflowing with pride and gratitude for your service Ian. Your dad, Andrew, was bursting with it too. Even while facing his own incredibly tough battle, he was so unbelievably proud of you and your commitment to the military and Special Ops selection.

He told me, "He's tougher than I ever was." And he meant it. He´d talk about your determination, your grit. He even shared something you said: "Dad, I can endure anything for an hour or two." That kind of mental fortitude... it inspired him. He´d say, "If Ian can do it, I can do it." You gave him so much drive and energy, Ian. You truly did.

He saw the strength you were building, the discipline you were forging. He saw you grow into the man you are today, and it filled him with an immense sense of accomplishment. He´d say, "The two toughest journeys of our lives, and we will take them together." That was his spirit.

He was so invested in your success, especially when it came to land navigation. He wanted you to conquer it, to prove what you're capable of. But, like any father, he also had that protective instinct. He knew the dangers involved in the missions Special Ops undertake, and a part of him... well, a part of him wrestled with that. His heart wanted you to succeed, but his love for you also made him cautious.

More than anything, Ian, he was proud. Proud of your effort, proud of your growth, and immensely proud to call you his son. Know that, always.
