First off my condolences on your loss and sadly this is several years late.
My first encounter with Andrew was sometime in 95 when I had started an internship in Ottawa and discovered Master Yangs as I had just started playing MTG. From there a gang of us would spend several years among different shops that would come and go but a core group of us would remain. At first I only knew Andrew through MTG but his proactive approach in helping out newer players making mistakes and doing poorly in tournaments was something that stuck with me. Because of the competitive nature of tournaments most people wouldn't do this.
As time went on however and I got to know Andrew more whether it be catching a movie, going to a pub or getting something to eat it became clear that being a kind soul was a natural part of his character. I am fortunate to have met Andrew and I would like to have thought of him as a friend and hopefully he thought of me as a friend as well. He was one of the nicest people I had known and that is true as well at the time I am writing this.
My time ended in Ottawa in 2005 when I moved to the US for work, but the last day before my flight (which would be the last day I would spend in Ottawa to this day) I had dinner with Andrew and amazingly now I can recall it pretty clearly. Sadly though I lost touch with him (and mostly everybody in Ottawa) pretty quickly as the move and work consumed so much time and I never really became active on social media. Now, with the crazy times we are living in, especially what I have been hearing happening in Canada, I had a nostalgic motivation to reach out to people I hadn't spoken with in a long time, Andrew was the first I thought of. I was pleasantly surprised to find a really old email just prior to my move with his CA Gov. email so sent a reply from the long past email thread which I thought would be funny in a way. That email didn't bounce which I thought it would given the time that past. After that I figured I would look on FB and was happy to find him on someones friends list. Not being familiar with FB it took a bit to realize what happened but when I did words can't describe the feeling. Part of it though was a sadness as the good times and conversations I had with Andrew would come back in waves while at the sametime realizing the hope I had on catching up with him would not happen. I regret having lost contact with someone like Andrew but the source of what made him the way he was is also the reason we should be happy, his faith in Christ! Something I had sadly neglected for most of my life but have been working to rectify these past years.
God Bless

First off my deepest condolences on Andrew's passing.
I had moved from Ottawa to the US in 2005 and the day before my flight out I had sat down and had dinner with Andrew in the downtown market.
I had first met Andrew probably around 95 or so when I was doing internships in Ottawa and would play MTG at Master Yang's where there ended up being a crew of us that spent a lot of time on the weekends
Andrew was one of the nicest people I had ever met, I first experienced this observing him time and time again eager to help out newer players in tournaments making mistakes while most wouldn't because they were opponents. However, as I got to know Andrew more and we would hang out afterwards or catch a show or something it was obvious he was a kind soul all around. Sadly after I left Ottawa I lost touch quickly with the majority of people as I had never really became active on Social Media
Being the crazy times we live in now I had some nostalgic motivation to see what was happening with people back in Canada who had not spoken with a long time, Andrew was the first I thought of. I actually had an old email from him I found so was quick to send an email. After that I decided to poke around on FB where I found him on someones friend list. Not being familiar with FB that much anymore it took me a little bit on his profile to come to the realization of what happened.
The feeling was something I can't put into words. But part of it was a deep sadness because the memories of great times we had. All the MTG shops and tournaments we played , so many Friday night Magic and then going to pubs and general great discussions, just writing this makes me sad and deeply sorry that I had lost touch with him. He was a great friend!
