Anita Genevieve "Genny" Turpin (Cardwell), age, 83 passed away on July 25, 2024, in Houston, TX. Born on March 1, 1941, in Baltimore, Maryland, she dedicated her life to nurturing others, both as an elementary school teacher and in her personal life, enriching the lives of everyone she touched. Genny loved her family so much and she will be terribly missed.

Genny graduated from Shades Valley High School before furthering her education at Samford University and Jacksonville State University. She found her calling in teaching, a career that allowed her to share her passion for knowledge and care with young minds.

A devout member of Grace Episcopal Church in Anniston, Alabama, Genny was deeply involved in various community service activities. Genny along with Hank started an annual fundraiser, called Lobsterfest at Grace Church. It is now in it's 26th year, always in October. She regularly volunteered at local soup kitchens, participated in Habitat for Humanity projects, and was a member of the Alexandria Verosa Club. Her commitment to service was a testament to her generous spirit and deep faith.

Genny was a vibrant soul who loved gardening, decorating, and hosting gatherings. Her exceptional eye for aesthetics was evident in her beautifully curated home and garden. Known for her radiant smile and infectious laughter, she could effortlessly brighten any room she entered.

She leaves behind a loving family: her son, Kent Robert Turpin; daughter, Margaret Turpin Ottenritter; grandchildren, Kyle McKinley Turpin, Nikolai Robert Turpin, Daniel Robert Turpin, Elizabeth Kate Ottenritter, and Adeline Wakefield Ottenritter; stepchildren, Sharon Turpin Twelker, Richard Turpin, and John Turpin. Genny was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Henry Richard Turpin, and her parents, John Robert and Anita P. Cardwell.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Anniston, Alabama, on October 12, 2024, at 11:00 am, with a reception following in Tyler Hall.

Contributions may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 1791, Anniston, Alabama 36202, Habitat for Humanity, Calhoun County, habitatanniston.org, or a charity of your choice, honoring Genny's legacy of kindness and community involvement.

Even though Ginny was born a Yankee she was the quintessential southern lady in every aspect of her life. Refined but country enough to ride the lawnmower she loved. She was an important person in my life and I am blessed to have known her. She was good people through and through. In death as in her life nothing was ever tacky. Rest in peace, your home now.

Genny was my Dad´s cousin. I first met Genny -where else?-at Uncle Bob´s cabin on Lake Martin. Genny was young, beautiful, and she water skied! She made it look effortless, and she inspired me to learn to ski at 6 years old! I will always remember her joy, being the first person I ever saw drink Lite beer, and loving her parents so much! I´m so sorry she and I rarely saw each other...she was always so comfortable to be around. And hers is the only fried okra I ever liked!!

What a blessing to be your daughter. You had a style like no other person I know. I will miss our daily talks but I know you live within us and are whole again.

I will always remember Genny’s radiant smile, her droll sense of humor, and her artist’s eye for creating lovely settings to welcome family and her many friends to her home.

Mimi had the most amazing style- her life was so colorful, led by the joy she brought to others. I´ll always think of Alabama summers, playing Uno and picking okra from her garden. I´ll miss her smile, her laughter, hilarious quick wit and the way she lit up every room she was in.
