Annie Chan Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Jun. 15 to Jun. 16, 2010.

CHAN, AnnieWith deep sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing on June 12th of Annie Chan, beloved wife, loving mother and loyal friend. Annie-is deeply missed by Herman, her husband and best friend of thirty years, and Diana and Reyna, her loving and devoted daughters. She is predeceased by her parents and sister Betty and is survived by her brothers David, Vincent, Louis and Carton and their spouses and children. Annie was born sixty-three years ago in China and moved at a young age to Macau. At age 17, Annie entered the University of Hawaii, graduating with a degree in Sociology and Psychology. After university, Annie moved to Vancouver and worked for over 29 years with Jeffrey Wing where her dedication, easy manner and warm personality made her a much valued colleague and friend. Annie was always young at heart and was a generous, caring, optimistic soul who had a smile, love and friendship for every person she met. Whatever she was doing, from having dinner parties, to travelling, to cheering on her favourite Canucks, Annie was happiest when she was with her family and friends and enjoying every minute of life. A service will be held Saturday, June 19 at 2pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 3789 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made in Annie's memory to the Canadian Lung Association or the BC Heart and Stroke Foundation.

I was so shocked when Julita told me Annie had suddenly left this world. I still remember the happy time we had together about 10 years ago when I visited your house. I will never forget her smiling face and her friendship. My deepest condolences to you all.

Dear Herman, Diana and Reyna:
Words cannot express our shock when we found out of Annie's sudden passing. We have known Annie for over 30 years, and we have always counted the Lao and Chan families as part of the HONG family all these years. Annie had always been a wonderful and beautiful person, and we will always treasure her friendship. Herman, as your friend, wife and companion, Annie will forever live in your heart. As time goes by, you will recall more and more of her virtues. Diana and Reyna, I cannot tell you how much joy, pride, and comfort you have brought your Mom. She had had unconditional love for both of you, and her devotion to both of you had been 100%. Continue to make her proud as you complete your studies, launch your careers, and have a family of your own. Your Mom will continue to look down on you from Heaven with pride! Your Mom's love will be with you for eternity. Annie is with the Lord now! She will rest in peace. Our condolences and prayers!

Annie was such a good sister to Louis & Carton when we were at the U of Hawaii East West Centre. I remembered how we didn't waste a minute to rush to a College Basketball Game after work.
She was in my thought when I watched the Winter Olymipic. I was forever grateful for in 2008 she took Maddi, my father to Whistler just because she knew we would not be able to come 2010. She always enjoyed those winter trips with her family (even though she's afraid of heights)
Herman, Diana & Reyna her life. I'm sad such an angel has to go so soon. God bless, till we meet again Annie

Annie was so caring of others and so diligent in her work. We knew Annie both as a professional and a friend. She did outstanding work for our family. And on a personal level, her thoughtful humility, among other outstanding traits, will linger in our memory. She was exemplary in so many ways. She leaves the world a better place.
