Annie Reimer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 17, 2011.
REIMER, Annie (nee Unger)
1926 ~ 2011
Annie (Unger) Reimer, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, went home to the God who sustained her in this life, on September 14, 2011.
Annie was born November 7, 1926, near Dalmeny, Saskatchewan, to Russian Mennonite immigrants and homesteaders, Peter and Anna (Buhler) Unger. She was their second daughter, after Sadie, later joined by sisters Laura and Mary. On November 3, 1946, she and Carl Reimer married in Steinbach, Manitoba. Bernhard, Erich, and Richard were born to the couple there; sons David and Ernest were welcomed after moving to Edmonton.
Annie's life was rooted in her faith in God's faithfulness, a faith that she and Carl strove to hand on to their children. That assurance sustained her when her mother died and her father's re-marriage left her orphaned by step-family. Thus she would devote herself completely to her own family and delighted in raising her five sons. She was amazing in her calling as a 'home-maker,' whether gardening and canning produce; or sewing and repairing our clothes and quilts; or cooking and baking, especially the Pascha and other Mennonite treats. She typed theses for graduate students and correspondence dictated by the law firm of Allan Collins, worked as a library clerk for the Department of Education and later as a House Mother for the Westfield Group Home. Annie extended her love for her family to the wider human family, she and Carl taking people with difficulties into our home like we sons took in stray cats! A lively writer and correspondent until her hands failed, she left many fine memoirs.
Throughout her life, Annie's hands were constantly busy. They were debilitated by a sudden deterioration from a neck injury. It was devastating but Annie's faith continued to sustain her through her many changes.
We, her family, wish to thank the staff at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital and, in particular, the Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre for their exceptional care.
Annie is survived by her husband, Carl; sons Erich, Richard (Dana); David (Herb); Ernest (Heather); sisters Sadie Warkentin, Laura Murphy, and Mary Penner; grandchildren, Jesse, Christine, Benjamin and Cedric; one great-grandchild, Jade; Lori Reimer, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was pre- deceased by her parents, and son, Carl Bernhard.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Annie Reimer will be held on Tuesday, September 20 at 11:00 a.m., at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 210 Haddow Close, Edmonton, Alberta (preceded by a viewing beginning at 10:00 a.m.). A viewing will also take place on Monday, September 19th, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., at Hainstock's Funeral Home, 9810-34 Avenue.
In lieu of floral tributes, memorial donations in Annie's name may be made to: Allen Gray Continuing Care Centre or the Canadian Bible Society.
Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.hainstockedmonton.com .

With heartfelt sympathy to all your family in the loss of your mother and wife. I have known David (and Herb) for some years now and know how close David was and is to his mother and all his family. My thoughts are with you.

As a boy (and friend of Erich) I spent many hours in your home and while each and every one of you made me feel welcome, I'm sure Mrs. Reimer (as I knew her) was responsible for much of the warmth that to this day I still remember. All the best.

Dear Carl and Family, we just heard of the passing of your dear wife and loving mother. Our thoughts and prayers go with you and the family. She was an amazing lady and I always was intriqued at all she could do so well. Great cook, gardener and so many other skills, it just facinated us to see how she could make something beautiful out of nothing. We will always remember her as a very dear friend
even though we hadn't been in touch lately. God Bless you all!!

Dear Carl and your family. I did not meet Annie personally but through Carl I feel I know her. Roseanne did meet her and remembers her as a lovely sweet woman. I certainly can perceive the strong bond of love between Carl and Annie and this love also incorporated the whole family. As you grieve, know that she is with the Lord, supporting you with her prayers. We will will be praying for you as well in this time of mourning.

It is with sadness and joy that we heard of your dear wife and mother leaving this life. The sadness is her joyful christian witness and smile will no longer be ours to witness. The joy is the fact that she will now be with her Savior and Lord. Our love and prayers are extended to her beloved husband Carl, her sons, their wives and grandchildren. May God's peace be your strength.

We were shocked at hearing of Ann's passing. Words do fail you at a time of loss. But I will always remember her kind demeaner and giving personality. Our prayers are with the family .
