Anthony Martinat

Anthony Stephen Martinat, 33, of Boone, formerly of Valdese, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday December 24, 2014. Anthony was born on February 27, 1981 in Burke County to Stephen Henry Martinat and Kathy Church Via. He was a graduate of East Burke High School, Appalachian State University, and was a member of La Phare Des Alpes (LPDA). He worked in food services for Appalachian State University. Anthony enjoyed living in Boone, Appalachian sports, and reading. He was truly a joy to those who knew him, and will be remembered for his warm smile and sharing his gift of gab. He was a member of Waldensian Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his parents, Steve Martinat and wife Laura of Valdese and Kathy Via and husband Richard of Morganton; his brother, Rob Martinat of Valdese; his sister, Julia Martinat and fiancé Grayson Turner of Valdese; his step-siblings, Laura Chatham and husband Michael of Glen Alpine, Coby Via of Morganton, Isaac Waters of Lenoir, and Ian Waters of Connecticut; his grandmother, Betty T. Church of Valdese; an aunt and uncle, Boyd and Karen DeVane and their children, Patrick and Joseph all of Raleigh; an uncle, John David Church of California; and a host of relatives and friends that truly loved him. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday December 29, 2014 at the Waldensian Presbyterian Church Cemetery, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 A.M. at the Waldensian Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Dr. Kevin Frederick officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Service.
