Anthony "Tony" Melito
Anthony "Tony" Melito, age 81, of Canton, passed away early Thursday morning after an extended illness. A life resident of Canton, he was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Ben V. Marconi Sons of Italy Lodge #1628, North Canton Elks Lodge #2029 and the McKinley Eagles Aerie #2270. A millwright by trade, he was retired from the Timken Company after 43 1/2 years. Following retirement, he worked at the Pro Football Hall of Fame for nine years. Tony enjoyed woodworking, working in his yard and loved to dance. Preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Grace (Corlito) Melito; brothers, Patrick, Joseph (Cheese) and Frank Melito; sisters, Margaret Caporaso, Antoinette Patt, Mary Bocutti and Lucille Andriotto. He is survived by his wife, Mary (Rossi) Melito with whom he celebrated 60 years of marriage on September 2, 2006; daughters and son-in-law, Carolyn Melito, Annette and Richard Schreffler, all of Massillon; grandson and spouse, Christopher and Tricia Schreffler of Massillon; sister, Annie Cora of Canton; dear friend, Annie Lopez; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. James Schmotzer and staff, Dr. David Schumaker and the staff at Infusion Service for their care. Friends will be received on Sunday from 4-8 p.m. in the Rossi Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be sung on Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Edward Beneleit as celebrant. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Tony's name can be made to the Leukemia Society of America, Inc., 902 West Point Parkway, Suite 300, Cleveland, Ohio 44145. "God saw that you were getting tired and a cure was not to be, so he put His arms around you and whispered, "Come home with me." With tearful eyes we watched you suffer and saw you fade away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating. A determined spirit at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best."
