My dad was my hero, mentor, idol, teacher, first love, and best friend.
During his lifetime I thanked my dad for many things he did for us, but I never thanked him (and my mom) for teaching me how to speak Italian. It´s a gift I now cherish that I can communicate with my parents´ family and friends abroad.
When I was growing up, my dad used to challenge my brothers and I with Italian words and phrases. Sometimes he would learn a thing or two also. I was about 12 years old, and after dinner one night my dad said "who can tell me what `mani di cera´ means." My mom was washing the dishes and she was giving us a hint by letting the forks slip out of her hands. So I shouted "butterfingers" and my dad said "what?!" So he learned a new American term and told me that "cera" meant wax. Wax hands means butterfingers in Italian.
When I was in college and also working for my dad, I wanted to challenge my dad and I asked him, Alex and Anthony if they knew an Italian word that did not end in a vowel. He was stumped and I was so happy to stump him. I exclaimed "clacson!" which means car horn, to which my dad replied swiftly and happily in his dialect "nu u chiamem u fischett!" and we all burst into laughter. He was always a comedian.
After college, when meeting and among other Italians, my dad would tell people that I spoke better Italian than he did, which was an enormous compliment. Thank you, papà, for the compliments and for everything you did for us. Thank you for teaching us to speak Italian, teaching us the Italian culture by maintaining "la domenica italiana" by inviting "cumba Giusep(pe)" and "cummarr Luci(a)" to listen, sing and dance to Italian classics like Romagna Mia, Claudio Villa, Gigliola Cinquetti and many others. I remember lots of nostalgic tears when listening to "Sento la nostalgia d'un passato
Dove la mamma mia ho lasciato
Non ti potrò scordar casetta mia
In questa notte stellata
La mia serenata io canto per te"
We had many laughs listening to Totò on the record player before I even saw him on the TV in Italy. Thanks again papà, for making me "Italianissima". I love you forever.

I am just now seeing that this wonderful man is in God's hands now. He was a genuine kind and loving soul and always took the time to be with family and friends. You are missed but always will be remembered fondly for your loving nature and friendship. I met him when I was the Assessor in Sugar Grove on some taxation matters and truly was inspired by his wealth of knowledge and his true kindness.

My sincere condolences to The Rendina Family and Marie. May you find peace in the memories and in Tonys' legacy.
As sharp and tough as he was in business, his smile lit up the room and his charm embraced us all. I feel honored, privileged, and fortunate to have done business with him and grateful for the things he taught me, mostly about the love of family and also being fair but firm in business. His heart of gold was always on display as he always asked about how my family was doing and he touched my heart when my father passed away. A kind, thoughtful, and generous spirit, he would show up with tomatoes and vegetables from his garden, homemade cheese, and wine. Always kind, generous, thoughtful, and charming. I'll always remember the way he made me feel.
Tony Rendina "tough as nails, heart of gold" will be sorely missed.

When I first started at swallow Construction. My dad was in the hospital with heart problems. I was at work at the shop, and Tony I call him boss. Says to me what's the matter with you Todd. A tear down my cheek. Boss man says hey Todd hey Todd you come with me. We went to his office. Told him what's going on. He told me to go home and take as much time as I needed for my family. And my job would still be here I got back. When I got up to leave put his hand on my shoulder. And said remember Todd you have family here now too. I will never forget that. Love you Boss Man

Ci mancherai molto.

Tony was my uncle in law I used to call Zii' Tonin' (Italian dialect for zio Tonino uncle Tony).
Zio Tonino had always a charming smile and a fun story to tell. I remember anecdotes about our hometown zio used to share for a genuine laugh. I remember him telling me how he met the most beautiful, elegant and romantic woman, my aunt Maria who devoted her life to zio.
He was also always happy to talk about America and his passion for his work and I tell you he truly was committed to it. An ambitious and hardworking Italian man who has personified the American Dream.
I have always seen you, uncle Tony, as the embodiment of the ethos of the United States I used to dream of while growing up in a rural small town of south Italy, just like you zio our hometown, our roots.
I have always thought highly of you zio Tonino and I was happy to see you back in February. Despite your health conditions, you had not changed much and you preserved the look and charm you have always possessed.
May you, uncle Tony, rest in peace and find eternal resting. You will be missed dearly.

Papa, I love you so much and I cannot believe you are gone. I'm going to miss seeing everyday and taking your calls to tell me how proud you are of me. Nadia will miss your daily calls too. Your grandkids will miss everything about you. Francesco will miss building his garden with you every year, Anthony will miss the watermelons that yu brought us almost every other day, Gisella will miss helping you with your phone and Dario will miss you teaching him about roads and Route 83. You will always live in our house and in our hearts. I can see you when I look up smiling down at us, but the pain of not being able to hear your voice is at an insurmountable proportion. Through the strength you showed and taught we will get by though. I cannot wait until I see you again in our eternal life. Until then, please watch over my children and all of your family that loved and adored you so much. I love you papa and my heart will miss you until we meet again. Your son, Anthony
