ARTHUR BAISLEY Obituary

Mr. Arthur Albert Baisley, 87, passed away August 13, 2014 at Sebastian River Medical Center in Sebastian.

He was born in Peekskill, NY on January 29, 1927 to Arthur and Kathryn Matlock Baisley. On October 14, 1950 he married Ada Mae Baisley who predeceased him.

Art served on the USS Saratoga during World War II.

He was a member and Chaplain of American Legion Post #189, member of VFW Post #10210, Polish League of American Veteran, Amvets Post, Vero Beach, USS Saratoga Association, life member of the Eagles #4067, Orioles Nest #272, Sebastian, Loyal Order of Moose, #1767, Sebastian, Masonic Temple Lodge No 232, Sebastian, GM Retirees Club of the Treasure Coast, Blood Bank Coordinator for Legion and VFW.

Art worked at General Motors in Tarrytown, NY and Feldman News in Peekskill, NY before retiring to Micco, FL in 1984.

He was an avid Dancer who owned Arthur Baisley Dance Studio in Peekskill, NY in his younger years.

He was a member of Roseland United Methodist Church, Roseland, FL.

Survivors include his sons, Arthur of Highland Falls, NY and Alan of Fishkill, NY; daughter, Cathy Ballou of Malabar , FL; grandchildren, Jason, Shaunna and Spencer Baisley of Fishkill, NY; Charles and Cynthia Ballou of Malabar, FL; brother, Calvin Baisley of Peekskill, NY.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Kathryn Matlock Baisley and sister, Mildred Marallo.

Visitation 5-7 p.m., Sunday, Aug 24th at Strunk Funeral Home, Sebastian, FL. A Funeral Service 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 25th at Strunk Funeral Home, Sebastian, FL with Father Dave Newhart of St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church, officiating. Military Honors 12 noon, Monday, Aug 25th at Fountainhead Memorial Park, Palm Bay, FL. Military Honors are conducted by the Sebastian Area Veterans' Honor Guard.

Pop,
So glad you waited for Spencer to arrive in Florida and visit with you at the end. You have always been an important person in his life. He loved hearing all of his grandfather's stories especially about your WWII day and the Saratoga. You also played a strong role in Jason and Shaunna's lives. Thank you. My favorite memory: eating hot dogs out of the old RV watching the sunrise over Wabasso Beach. Rest in peace.

Cathy, Frank, Charles and Cynthia. My thoughts are with you at this time. Frank, I know this is especially hard for you because you were so close to your Father-in-Law. I have never met someone who was so dedicated and caring. Everyday for years you visited Art to make sure he took his meds and fixed him his dinner. You went above and beyond what would have been expected of you. And bless you for keeping your promise to him. He knew you would keep it. In closing just remember all manner of kindness will be rewarded. So Frank you are a very rich man.

I will miss you Art. We talked of many things...your childhood...your dancing and you even showed me your shoes. You talked with my Son about the Saratoga and other interesting things. You will always be missed but I know that you are happier now.

Cathy and Frank, My thoughts and prayers are with you during this very difficult time. Your Father couldn't have asked for a better Son-in-law than Frank. Frank took care of him like his own Father. That's what real family does. I know you are both hurting right now but cling to the good memories and the peace that comes from knowing he no longer suffers, he is now gloriously happy in the presence of God.
