Dr. Jain was the most influential professor at UB during my graduate years in the late 1980s! Aside from his mastery of the marketing function, Dr. Jain was charismatic, an excellent people's person and truly knew how to motivate all those around him. He was a man of values and held true to his principles! I really enjoyed learning under him and I am sure that those who had the pleasure and privilege of having him as a professor and / or mentor would say the same! RIP

Dear Jean; I am saddened to hear the news of Dr. Jain's passing. He was a true inspiration in my education and my life. Working side by side with him as his graduate assistant, which helped me to achieve my MBA and his referral was instrumental in my getting my first job at General Foods marketing research. He instilled in me the importance of research, which I have carried with me throughout my marketing career. I also remember your kind hospitality, having invited me to your home for dinner. We will all fondly remember Arun and celebrate his lifetime dedication to his family, excellence in education and helping his students succeed. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Dr. Jain can inspire and transform the lives of students in a way very few gifted teachers can. I still remember and use the knowledge I gained from his classroom - his passion for teaching is something very rare in academics. Thank you, Dr. Jain for making my career.

We wish you and your family strength at this difficult time. You should be proud of his many accomplishments, and the contributions to you, his family.

Dear Jean and Family, I've never met you, but I work at the UB School of Management and was out last week, so I just heard about the sudden loss of Arun. He interviewed me in 1992 during the hiring process for my current job at the UB School of Management Career Resource Center. You could tell, by the challenging nature of the interview, that he cared deeply about the school and our students. I grew to consider him a trusted friend and faculty colleague, who was instrumental in the career success of so many of his students. His passion, dedication, determination and tireless effort to make this school the best it could possibly be for our students will be sorely missed. On a personal note, I lost my wife two years ago, so my heart goes out to your an your family during this most difficult of times. He was a well respected professional and a man of his word/deed, who lived a life to be proud of and helped many along he way.

Godspeed,

Mike Paolini
Sr. Associate Director

Dear Jean and family,

Please accept my deepest condolences for your family's loss.

I just heard about the passing away of Prof. Jain and was shocked and saddened. I recently met him in Melbourne and had an inspiring chat with him. My daughter cherishes the dress that he gifted her.

I owe my career and professional success to his guidance, kindness and support throughout my five year PhD life at Buffalo. Memories of my first interview with him 10 years back, thanksgiving dinners and his congratulatory words on my graduation still remain fresh in my mind.

I hope that you will find some comfort in knowing that he inspired and shaped countless careers and touched numerous lives.

March 8, 2016

Dear Jean, Dr Jain meant the world to our daughter Rohini, her husband Frank, my wife Sharmistha and me. We are devastated and deeply saddened by this loss. Dr Jain has been Rohini's godfather, mentor, teacher, confidante... in fact her Buffalo Dad for almost a decade. His encouragement and belief in her enabled her to get the best breaks in her life at UB, including serving as his TA and on special projects with him. The friendship my wife and I have shared with him on a long distance basis, and on wonderful catch-ups when we visited Buffalo, will be forever cherished. When you and Dr Jain graced Rohini's wedding on June 13, who would have believed that was going to be the last time we would see him! We have lost a true friend. May God give you and your children and their families courage to bear this irreparable loss. I will treasure the warmth of his emails to me and will miss him terribly on our next Buffalo visit. Please take care. May his kind soul rest in peace. Sadly, Indranil Gupta along with Sharmistha.

Prof. Jain taught me more than marketing. One of the few professors that shaped my MBA and my life during my time in Buffalo. I had the pleasure of hosting DR and Mrs. Jain in Bali and I still remember the invite to an Indian dance performance and hosted myself and my parents prior to the commencement. You will be missed deeply and UB will never be the same without you. Goodbye Professor....

I met Dr Jain in 1973 when I started my MBA, took a few classes with him and went on to do my PhD under his unequaled guidance and skilled supervision. He truly was one of the rare professors who influenced my studies and my whole career as an academic. He obviously became more than a mentor as we spend countless hours doing research together. He taught me more than the intricacies of research and marketing. He also taught me what it meant to become a professional. I know that I am not the only student that he gave wisdom and vision to. I also know that there is out there a large cohort of former students who should be grateful that he came into their lives. Arun, you will never be forgotten. Thank you for all you did for me. Rest in Peace. Jean, I am sorry for your loss. May you find happiness and strength in the fact that you had the chance to be married to a great man.
