Barbara Hancock Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 20 to Dec. 21, 2022.
Barbara Lea Hancock (nee Hitchner), 73, of Elsinboro, NJ, went home to be with the Lord on December 19, 2022.

Barbara was born on June 14, 1949, and lived in Alloway, NJ. She met her high school sweetheart, Jay before graduating from Woodstown High School in 1967. Barbara and Jay went on to marry in 1967 and have four children. Barbara and Jay worked together to build a home and reshape the open fields of a farm into a beautiful property where they hosted their family on holidays, weekends, and special occasions. Barbara loved fishing in the backyard pond with her grandchildren who affectionately called her "Mom Mom". She also loved planting flowers, trees, shrubs, and feeding the hummingbirds on her deck.

In addition to Jay, her husband of fifty-five years, Barbara is survived by her four children and twelve grandchildren.

Visitation will begin 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 23rd at H.T. Layton Funeral Home, 102 South Main Street, Woodstown, NJ with services beginning at 11:00 a.m. Graveside service at East View Cemetery, 460 E Broadway, Salem, NJ to immediately follow.

We are so saddened by your loss. As a young couple many years ago at Ambassador, Barbara made us feel so welcomed in her home! Truly an amazing lady! We will keep Jay and family in prayer.

Barbara was a sweet high school friend. We met at Alloway lake and became fast friends. I had gone all through school with her husband,Jay, and my husband and I were friends with both when we were young. I regret losing touch through the years but I have some wonderful memories. My condolences to the family. I will never forget her. She was lovely. Wendy Blades Mosher

I remember the "old fashion" Sunday at the Hancock´s farm. We dressed in long dresses and ate lunch on the grounds. What a fun time we had.

Barbara and I went to church together for many years. We also worked for a local dentist and had many lunches together! So sorry Jay & family!
