Barbara Findley Stegall

Barbara Findley Stegall, age 82, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Fletcher P. and Lois Findley; she was also preceded in death by her son, Jo H. Stegall, III and by her brother Fletcher Findley, Jr. Mrs. Stegall was born in Rome on September 18, 1935.

In 1954 she married her childhood sweetheart, Dr. Jo H. Stegall, Jr. She is survived by a loving family: Her husband Dr. Jo Stegall, her brother Dr. David Findley, her children Emily and Frank Stuckey, Angie Stegall, and Ben and Sandie Stegall. She has six grandchildren: Reagin, Frank, Henderson, Mary Lyn, Katie, and Beau, and one great-grandchild Elizabeth Jane.

Barbara was Rome's greatest fan. She promoted it each time she had the pleasure of working with a new Roman in her successful real estate business. Her love for Rome was demonstrated through her involvement with city beautification and improvement. She was associated with Hardy Realty and was a celebrated member of the Circle of Excellence for more than 25 years.

Barbara was also an active member of many garden club groups and served in various capacities locally and statewide.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Rome where she sang in the choir for many years and taught Sunday school.

She was the proud recipient of many awards including the Junior Service League of Rome Sustainer Award and in 2008, an Award of Honor for the Heart of the Community. A family favorite was her being crowned "Miss Freshman" at the University of Georgia in 1953.

A memorial service was held at Rome First United Methodist Church on Monday, November 13, 2017 at 11:00 AM with the Reverend Mark Sargent officiating. The family greeted friends before the service at 10:00 AM in the Wilder Dining Room.
