Bard-Alan Finlan Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 6, 2015.
Bard-Alan Finlan, 60, husband of Dianne Finlan of Rockport, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 6, 2015. Born in Bloomfield, New Jersey on October 22, 1954, he was the son of the late Guy Emery Finlan, Jr. and Renee Marie Finlan. He cherished his family, and admired his three sons, Ethan, Gabriel, and Adam, to whom he was a committed and loving father determined to provide them a family environment in which they could flourish. Bard-Alan loved photography, but music was his passion and joy. He earned a Doctorate in Music at the University of Southern California. He was an accomplished conductor and singer, and he was a member of the Christ Church in Hamilton where he sang in the choir. He volunteered at Rockport Music, which for him was a truly enriching "labor of love." A person of ideals, he was particularly proud of his social activism; frequently writing letters to the editor to support his views. He was very involved in issues associated with disabilities. He loved his annual visits to California, his wife's home state and where he was raised after age 16. He especially enjoyed San Francisco, Carmel, and La Jolla. He was employed for 16 years by Verizon as a technician working out of the Rockport station. In addition to wife and sons, he is survived by his brother Guy Emery Finlan, III and his aunts and cousins. Visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester on Thursday, TODAY, from 4 to 6 p.m. His funeral service will be held in the Christ Church, 149 Asbury St., Hamilton, on Friday, July 10th at 11 a.m. Extended family and friends are cordially invited to attend. The burial will be held in Beech Grove Cemetery, Pleasant St., Rockport. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Margaret Pardee Private Lesson Scholarship Fund. Checks must be made payable to "Rockport Music Department," and sent to Rockport High School Music Department - 24 Jerdens Lane - Rockport, MA 01966.
