Barry RIMER Obituary

Published by Calgary Herald from Jan. 30 to Feb. 1, 2013.
RIMER, Barry
March 19, 1947 - January 19, 2013
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Barry Rimer of Calgary, AB on January 19, 2013. He left us suddenly while living his Mexican dream in La Manzanilla, Mexico. His best friend and wife of 37 years, Susan, was by his side. Along with Susan, Barry is remembered by their four children, Adam, Lucas (Michelle), Cole and Lacey (Stephen) and his first grandchild, Aviva. He will also be greatly missed by his father Val Rimer and two brothers Alan (Shirley) and Miles (Susan). Barry was predeceased by his mother, Doris. Barry loved his ranch, his horses, his dogs and everything cowboy. He and Susan put together a great life and celebrated it on a daily basis. He always had a project on the go and lived by the belief that a lot can be accomplished when you do not care who gets the credit. He quietly left his mark on everyone and everything that he touched. A piece of all of us died when Barry suddenly left us, two months before his 66th birthday. How lucky we are to have known someone who is so hard to say goodbye to. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 1, 2013 at Temple B'nai Tikvah (900 - 47 Avenue S.W.). A celebration of Barry's life will follow at 4:00 p.m. at The Kensington Legion (1910 Kensington Road N.W.).

Barry was such a wonderful and kind man. He was very generous to us and a wonderful neighbour. We were deeply saddened when Luc told us that he had lost his Dad and with heavy hearts we knew we had lost a special friend. Unfortunately we were up north on a project and could not attend the memorial service but please know our prayers are with your family and the ongoing success of your company. We will miss him and think of him often. Luc, please know we are here for you if you need assistance in any way in the future.

Susan, I too am shocked, and so sad. I know how much you will all miss him. I would love to be at the memorial but NZ is a long way away. Keep the faith. I have a bunch of pictures that are about 45 years old now, unbelievable, if you would like, I'll put them on a disk and send them to you. (You'll have to give me your mailing address though.)

To you Susan and your family I am deeply saddened to hear of your loss. Barry was a true cow poke. A wonderful, kind and gentle soul. Memories of riding cattle drives, branding, sitting around the dining room table at Hidden Valley, listening to funny stories while being force fed your fresh delicious baked cookies with a nip of dark rum.It was a privilege to have known him. I'm sure he will be invited to the Jack Palance John Wayne Club up stairs. Kind regards to all of your family.

Susan and family, my deepest condolences, I am still finding it hard to believe Barry has passed. Kind of expected Barry to ride up to the pearly gates, lean over the saddle horn and work a deal to be sent back, guessing a bargain could not be struck. Barry never seemed to get too down when things did not go his way, always dusted himself off and carried on, I hope he is still doing that, wherever he has gone, hope we can do the same. Happy trails old friend.

I was shocked when I read of Barry's passing. It didn't seem all that long a go we had a great time with Phil and Lorraine. I will always remember his laugh and smile. Although my knowing you has been short in comparison to others he will be fondly remembered.
