Beatrice Harms Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 21, 2025.
Beatrice "Bea" Harms, a devoted wife, mother, nurse, and master gardener, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on July 9, 2025. Her life was a testament to strength and determination to all who knew her.

Born on May 7, 1939 in Willmar, Minnesota, Beatrice was baptized and made profession of her Christian faith at First Prinsburg CRC. She graduated from Willmar High School in 1957. She married James Harms, the love of her life, in 1958. This union followed countless letters overseas while Jim was stationed in Germany where he proudly served with the U.S. Army. Each letter was a testament to their heartfelt connection and led to a steadfast union and four beautiful children. She took tremendous pride in her Dutch heritage, enjoyed Ladies Aid and being an active member of Raymond CRC. She balanced the demanding life of farm living and her profession of nursing with diligence and a ready sense of humor. Whether tending to her extensive garden, or canning and preparing meals for her family, Bea's hands were always busy.

Beatrice began her career in healthcare as a Licensed Practical Nurse. While raising four children, she returned to school to earn her Registered Nurse degree, a remarkable achievement marked by long nights of studying after tucking her children into bed. Her perseverance paid off, and she went on to become a respected nursing supervisor.

Outside of work, Bea found great joy in her garden. She had a passion for flowers, which she nurtured into a Master Gardener certification from the University of Minnesota. Her yard was vibrant, full of color, and always well-tended.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Carol and Ken Bundy of Scottsdale, Arizona; Dave and Boni Harms of Henderson, Nevada; Wally and Lorri Harms of Springfield, Oregon; and Todd and Jennifer Harms of Knoxville, Tennessee. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, as well as two sisters, Patsy Erickson and Joann Molde.

Bea was preceded in death by her devoted husband, James Harms; her loving parents, Earl and Kathryn Van Der Veen Brink; her brother, LuVern Brink; her brother-in-law Gary Erickson.

The family is planning a joint memorial service for both Bea and Jim, which is expected to be held this fall in Raymond, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the local churches they were members of: Raymond Christian Reformed Church in Raymond, Minnesota, or Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, Tennessee.
