Beatrice Shindle Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Aug. 23 to Aug. 24, 2008.

SHINDLE Beatrice `Bea' (Klause) Of Burnaby, BC, formerly of Yorkton, SK passed away peacefully surrounded by family August 16, 2008. Born in 1925 in Springside, SK, she married Erven shortly after high school in 1942. Within three years they moved to Yorkton to continue farming and launch Yorkton Oil, Coal and Wood. This led to the construction business and the building of Yorkton's first shopping mall, Broadway Park Plaza in 1968. In 1976, Bea and Erv developed Silver Heights, the first housing subdivision of its kind in Saskatchewan. Bea was broker-owner of Broadway Park Realty Century 21 for 25 years and named Realtor of the Year in 1993. She is an honorary lifetime member of the Yorkton Real Estate Association. She was known as a virtual `one-woman chamber of commerce', bringing more than 60 businesses to Yorkton. Bea was on the steering committee for the Yorkton Figure Skating Club and played an active role in the Yorkton Music Festival. She was the president of the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce and The United Way and a key organizer of the Yorkton Farm Fair, now the successful Farm and Leisure Show. Bea and Erv were rarely apart, sharing everything life and family had to offer. They bought a condo in Burnaby in 1996, to be closer to family, after several winter holidays in The Bahamas and Florida. She was an avid letter writer and kept in touch with family, friends and business associates through letters and phone calls. One of Bea's joys after officially retiring in 1997 was writing her memoirs, leaving her family a thickly bound journal of her life and their rich Christian heritage. She was a devoted wife and business partner to husband Erv, loving and encouraging mother to daughter Cherie Bea (Garth Kelly) of Kelowna and son Evan (Cheryl Walilko) of Burnaby. She was a cheerleader and prayer warrior for her grandchildren Paul Kelly (Christina) of Kelowna, Claire Kelly (Nathan Box) of Edmonton, Jordan Kelly of Edmonton and Sidney and Troy Shindle of Burnaby. Funeral is 10:00 am August 26, 2008 Ocean View Funeral Home, Burnaby, BC. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to: Our Daily Bread, RBC Ministries, Box 1622 Windsor, ON N9A 6Z7 ( www.rbc.org ) or The Bea Shindle Bursary Fund payable to Good Spirit School Division No. 204, 63 King Street East, Yorkton, SK, S3N 3R2.

My sincere and deepest sympathy on the recent lost of your wife, and mother of Cheri & Evan and their families. We were neighbors on Sunset North in Yorkton, and Bea and Erv. accomplished much for the City of Yorkton. We have known Bea since early childhood during the farm living days.
May you be comforted by knowing others share you loss.
Tillie Howe and children, Harold, Reg. and Margaret.
