. Benjamin Forrest Barker, July 19, 1993 - June 30, 2014
Born in Houston, moved to Cistern at age 7 years. Graduated Flatonia H.S. class of
2011. Played baseball until sidelined by permanent injury. Other sports included hunting,
fishing and competitive shooting. Ben loved music, had a beautiful voice and
accompanied himself on guitar. His vocation as chef led him to studies at the Cordon
Bleu Academy, Austin and employment at the Red Vault Bistro in Flatonia. Generous
and outgoing, he had a large circle of friends and was a loving son, brother and uncle.
When his work on earth was done, the Lord called our wonderful boy because he needed
another angel. He is greatly missed and mourned by all who knew and loved him. Ben,
you will always be in our thoughts and prayers.
He is survived by his mother Kathleen Ann McCann Barker, father George Croft Barker
Jr., siblings Caroline Ashley Barker, Claiborne Thomas Barker, William Robert Haynes
III, sister in law Michelle Lynn Haynes, nieces Emily Nicole Haynes, Mathilde Claiborne
Barker, grandmothers Anna Mae Fullilove Barker, Mary Ann Noren McCann and aunt
Charlotte Cherry Barker Reese.
Ben is now reunited in heaven with his beloved grandfathers "Grandaddy" George Croft
Barker and "Papa" Bernard Benjamin McCann as well as other friends and relatives who
preceded him.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 am Friday, July 4, 2014 at Smith Funeral Home Chapel-Flatonia. Services will be held Saturday, July 5, 2014 at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Rowell officiating. Burial will follow at the Cistern Public Cemetery in Cistern.

Kathleen and Croft,
It was devastating to hear the heart-breaking news about Ben. I remember a bundle of a boy just bursting with life and the joy of life. And love. So much love in that beautiful smile. May that love you shared with him and the thoughts and prayers of your family and friends near and far provide some comfort for the tremendous grief you are dealing with.

Our dear friends, Croft and Kat,

Our sadness for the huge hole now left in the lives of you and your family is impossible to express. Special and precious Benjamin, whom we've known since he was a toddler in Houston, will be in our hearts and minds forever, always remembering the times he came to our home with that big smile and wonderful hug. His life was short on Earth, but will be forever in Heaven, and though it may be of no consolation right now, some day you will all have a great reunion. May God help you through this difficult time. With much love,

Dearest Croft and Kat,
Words escape me, so I borrowed a poem:

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep,
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the Diamond glints on snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle Autumn rain

When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quite birds in circled flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night
Do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there ,I did not die

Mary Elizabeth Frye

Wish I could hug you, Kat!

Dearest Kathy, Croft, Will, Clay and Caroline,
Words cannot express our sympathy for the loss of your precious Ben. As the past few days have passed we have been remembering how sweet, funny, and mischievous he was. Shane reminded me of when Ben filled the super soaker with Gatorade and squirted it into your fish tank. We pray that these memories can ease your grief a little. You are all in our constant thoughts and prayers.
Love,
Penny, Pat, and Shane

Kat, Will, Croft and family - So many memories of the kids being young and baby Ben running around everywhere. When I think of him I will always think of you in the kitchen, making your homemade mayonnaise and goodies every time I went to your house. Fresh egg nog, you name it, it was so awesome that you channeled that love of cooking to Chef Ben. He will look over you as long as you need him. Stevie's been gone over 3 years and I still need him, I will always. I will continue to put you on prayer lists, and I am so sorry for your loss.

Kat, Croft, Will, Clay and Caroline,
A piece of all of us died with this news and my heart is broken for all of you. Thankful for the gift of memory I will reflect on a beautiful baby, a loving and charming toddler, playful teen, loving son and friend, and accomplished musician and chef. He must have been needed somewhere else to have been taken from life so soon...I feel he has more to do!
I love you and send you strength and peace.
With Condolences, Nan, Chuck and Sidney

Croft & Kathleen,
So many thoughts and wonderful memories of Ben. Cody and Ben riding 4 wheelers, playing in the woods and going back and forth from your house to our house many times each day. Our hearts are so heavy and we are thinking of you and Will, and we are sorry for your loss, we just do not have enough words to tell you. May you each find peace, love and comfort in one another.

Croft and Kathleen, I think of your family often, and have been glad to connect with Kathleen on Facebook and have been able to see pictures the past few years. I sure did enjoy taking care of Ben Ben from age three months to six months when Kathleen went back to work. Later after I babysat Will and Ben Ben when you'd have a date night, I've always remembered a couple times when you left the house and Ben Ben immediately went to the dining room window and cried as he watched you drive away. Your whole family is in my thoughts and prayers!
