Bernard Davis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 4, 2022.
Bernard Davis, 81, died on March 2, 2022 in Reseda, CA. Bernard was born in London, England on October 18, 1940 and lived in England, Israel and Nicaragua before settling in Los Angeles. Bernard was a true "jack-of-all-trades" or a polymath. There seemed to be nothing he couldn't do once he decided, he could draw, sing, act, was quick with numbers, and an avid collector of information who could be known to pontificate on many subjects. Leaving his hometown of London in 1957, Bernard became a Merchant Marine, later drove an L.A. taxi cab, served in the Israeli Army in the mid 1970s, ran agricultural operations in Israel and Nicaragua, took a credentialed legal course at UCLA and then donated his time and knowledge to Beit T'Shuva, and was a fiercely loyal friend. He was the owner and operator of The Dandelion Cafe, a local Venice, CA favorite throughout the 80s and early 90s. Bernard raised his family on the the Westside of Los Angeles and headed to the Valley in 1994 , pursuing a career in Real Estate. He is survived by his daughter Maya Davis (Doug Shemer), son David Dotan Davis, his grandsons Emmet, Luke and James Shemer, sister Adele, his faithful brother Ivor, several nieces and nephews, notably his niece, Rebecca Suskind with whom he shared a close bond, and the children of his niece and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Barry Davis. Bernard will be remembered for his thoughtful cards, large and random gift baskets, quick wit, strong British accent, camera in hand, and perhaps by some his fiery temper. A Service was attended by family and close friends in Ventura, CA on March 7, 2022.

I will never forget you Bernard. I loved working with you and treasured our friendship. Even though we hadn´t seen each other since 2018 when we last had dinner with a mutual friend, I thought of you often, I always admired your sharp intellect, your sense of humor.. and a smile that could melt glaciers. Today is your birthday.. i went looking online because i couldn´t find your phone number .. and I found your obituary. It was your smile that won me over and what i will remember most about you. Rest well my friend.
