Bernard WYNDER Obituary

Published by Calgary Herald from Feb. 18 to Feb. 19, 2015.

WYNDER, Bernard Crawford
May 14, 1941 – Calgary, AB
February 15, 2015 – Okotoks, AB
Our Dad, Bernard "Bernie" Crawford McNally Wynder, of Calgary born May 14, 1941 entered his rest into the arms of our Savior on Sunday, February 15, 2015. Dad came into this world with almost nothing, but we witnessed how he left this life the richest man on the earth because of the impact and deep relationships he fostered. Dad was a best friend, hero and lovingly referred to as "Coach" by many. Dad loved sports, in fact excelled at them and won many championships as both player and coach. Dad also loved golf and was proficient at the game; he taught many to love golf and had great joy in sharing his gift. Our Dad was known everywhere he went, he made a lasting impression on others, and you couldn't help but know and love Bernie. Dad was exceedingly proud of his children; he never missed the chance to tell each of us how much he loved us. He was our greatest champion, and always in our corner. His greatest treasure was his deep rooted faith and membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dad served in both the Cardston Alberta Temple, and the Calgary Alberta Temple, this is where he would shine. He loved his Heavenly Father, he was proud to tell you that the Savior was his best and most trusted friend. Thank you Dad for your generosity, service, love and friendship, you've won the big game. Dad is survived by our mother Sharon (nee Stephenson) Wynder, his sweetheart, companion and wife of 43 years, and truly his everything. He leaves the lasting gifts of his love, laughter, friendship, testimony and spirit with his children and grandchildren, Daria (Nathan) Muirhead (Dylan, Joshua, Brigs, Noah and Lola), Courtnee (Mike) Lund (Justin, Andrew), Brett (Andrea) Wynder (Jayelle), and Cory Cole. Dad is also lovingly survived by his many siblings from the Wynder and McNally families. Funeral Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (14540 Parkland Blvd. S.E.) on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. A viewing will be held prior from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Bernie Wynder, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.

I don't know if Bernie knew the impact he had on me but it was profound. I grew up in single parent home so I didn't know the role of a Dad. Bernie was the man who helped fill that void. He was a part of my life during my impressionable years, a time when a little girl watches and observes. He was such a loving and devoted Dad. His example and influence on me back then set the stage for what later became my expectations of what a Dad is. I'm thankful he was there for me when I needed him. I know he touched many lives and will be missed by many but for me he will always be the man who taught me what a Dad is. Rest in Peace Bernie you'll forever be in my heart.

Dear Sharon and family, I want to express my sadness for Bernie's passing...he truly was an inspiration to me and my entire family... he was always the favorite uncle, but for many many reasons... his love of sports and his coaches mentality, and his smiling friendly way of expressing himself to all... he drew people to him, especially family. He will be greatly missed! We love you guys.
