Bernice Boyd Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 12 to Dec. 13, 2008.
Bernice G. BOYD Bernice "Berni" Goore Boyd, 84, died peacefully December 5, surrounded by her family. Born in Tacoma, Berni graduated from Stadium High School and earned a nursing degree at Seattle University. She then met a handsome young Navy lieutenant from Florida, Gene Boyd, who became her own " 'ol blue eyes." They were married in 1946. Berni's nursing career was put on hold by daughter Cori's arrival two years later. With Cori in school, a casual golf lesson developed into a lifetime passion. A member of Overlake Golf Club, Berni loved the athletic and social aspects of the game, particularly with "The Beefeaters", close couple friends who annually vacationed together at Northwest resorts. She later added bridge and tennis to her activities, and became proficient at both. A member of the Seattle Tennis Club, Berni was on the Activities Board, and chaired numerous luncheons and the annual Holiday Bazaar. Berni is survived by her sister, Betty Picha, of Puyallup; daughter Cori (Dr. John) Kirkpatrick of Seattle; and grandchildren Bradley (Michelle) Kirkpatrick of Seaettle; Jill (Dr. Justin) Piasecki of Gig Harbor; and Julie (Jacob) Haley, of Aliso Viejo, California. In recent years Berni treasured monthly dinners with her grandson, and phone calls and visits with her granddaughters. The arrival of great-grandchildren Kate, Natalie, Alex, Hailey and Makena gave Berni particular joy. A private family service was held. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to the Virginia Mason Foundation.
