Bertha Carter Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 5, 2025.
Bertha Louise Carter, age 90, passed away on August 1, 2025, in Olathe, Kansas after a short illness. She was born March 9, 1935 in Watertown, South Dakota, to Verl West Palmer and John Gast. She was raised with her older brother and four half siblings by her mother and stepfather Earl Palmer.

A dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served faithfully in many callings. She served two missions. One in the Dominican Republic and one in the Unemployment Center in Salt Lake City. She was a scout leader for 17 years, primary teacher, girl's camp leader, counselor in the Relief Society, and served as a temple worker.

Having lived a life of service, she touched many people's lives. Though she faced many challenges during her life, she always persevered with a positive attitude and graciousness towards those around her. Bertha had a love for fishing and anything that involved the outdoors. She was an avid quilter and made hundreds of quilts, all hand stitched with love. She could fix or build anything and wasn't afraid of any project no matter the size. After moving to Kansas she discovered a love for football, watching and cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs every time they played.

She married the late John Brundage and had six children, she is reunited with her three sons Jonnie Brundage, Billie Brundage, and Roy Gene Brundage. She is survived by her three daughters, Nicci Dieter, Debra Elvin, and Della (Charles) Sorensen; sixteen grandchildren, thirty three great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Bertha was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Jennifer Brundage and Kyle Smith, one great-grandchild, Bob Brundage, and siblings Russell Gast, Judy Myers, Ray Palmer, Billie Palmer, and Harold Gene Palmer.

We will celebrate her life at an open house Saturday, August 30, 2025 at the home of Charles and Della Sorensen from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. We will have a graveside service at a later date in Provo, Utah.

Been years since I saw this lovely lady. She was my grandmas sister-in-law . I use to visit when they lived in Provo. She will be dearly missed. Alfreda Hurlich

I have a few fond memories of Grandma. Spending time out in Myton, watching her and everyone can food, taking us kids on a drive around the property, coming to watch me get baptized, her coming with presents for birthdays and holidays and the yummy Christmas candy she made. Oh how we would fight over grandma's candy. How she would send us kids quarters in the mail to add to our coin books she gave us. I may not have spent much time with her after my dad died and I got older but she was always my grandma. I always thought of her.
