Our precious mother, Bessie Athanas Sperdakos, passed away Friday, April 10, 2015 embraced in the love of her four daughters: Kalli, Kathy, Alexandra and Kristine. She will be sadly missed by her three granddaughters: Alicia, Sarah and Katie, her son-in-law, John Stover, her niece, Lois Copis, and her nephew, Nicholas Galanos. She was predeceased by her husband, John Peter Sperdakos of Montreal, her brother Tony Athanas and her sisters Mary Copis and Helen Galanos. Her precious nephew, Peter Louis Copis, died in 2014, and promised to meet her "over the horizon." She is now with him. Our mother had a zest for life that never waivered through nine decades. She loved to knit, sew, decorate, organize, cook and bake. Her travels took her all over, but she was as happy in Ogdensburg, NY as she was in Athens, Greece. She loved to keep busy and taught us great lessons on aging- keep active, be of service, try new things, and stay forever young in your mind and heart. At 93 years of age, she loved her Chai Lattes at the Second Cup. For their gentle kindness and care, we would like to thank CCAC that became our lifeline in the last few months, Dr. Karen Tostowaryk, the staff at Orchard View on the Rideau, and the doctors and nurses at Elisabeth Bruyere. Friends are invited to visit the Greek Orthodox Church, 1315 Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome to join the family for a reception at the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Avenue following the Service. Interment will be held at a later date. Donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated and floral tributes can be sent to Beechwood. Our mother always felt a guardian angel was beside her, and she imagined death as a journey to the end of the rainbow.
