Beverly Sofin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 15 to Feb. 16, 2011.
OBITUARY BEVERLY ANN SOFIN (nee MELLEN) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Beverly. She died peacefully in Montreal on February 12, 2011 surrounded by family and friends, at the age of seventy-seven. She was the devoted mother of Andrew (Lucy Raikes) and Sean (Tatiana DaCosta) and the immensely proud and loving grandmother of Emily and Abbie Sofin. She will also be mourned by her brothers Richard Mellen (Serena), Peter Mellen and by William Sofin. Beverly earned her Bachelor of Arts from McGill but was proudest of her Master's Degree that led to her career in Audiology. She spent over 30 years helping children at the Montreal Children's Hospital. Beverly lived life to the fullest. She was an avid skier, tennis player and equestrian. She spent many happy years in the Laurentians at Greenshields' Point and later at Lac Manitou. She loved to travel, trying to soften the impact of the Montreal winters. In her free time, she enjoyed playing bridge, golf, reading and working in her garden at Manitou. Beverly will be dearly missed by her family and her many, many good friends. Her devoted friends will miss her compassion, generosity, loyalty and her honesty. A special thank you to the Hematology Oncology Team at the Jewish General Hospital, who gave us many more years with her than were anticipated. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on February 17 at the Mount Royal Funeral Complex, 1297 Chemin de la Foret, Outremount. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 16 at the same address. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada, Montreal Chapter, 705-1255 University Avenue, Montreal, H3B 3W1, to the Montreal Children's Library, 1200 Atwater, Montreal, H3Z 1X4 or to the charity of your choice.

Dear Sean and Andrew,
Your Mother was such a wonderful lady. I met your Mom while working at the Children's in 1976. She was full of life and so very proud of her two sons. She always said that the two of you kept her young! She was a very special lady and will be missed. My sincere condolences.

My sincere condolences to all Beverley's family. I studied with Beverley at McGill when we were both being taught by Daniel Ling, and Andrew was receiving therapy from him. I also had the privilege of benefitting from her work as a professional colleague in the pediatric domain for these many years. Bev was and always will be perennially young and very fondly remembered. Lovely personality and well balanced in life.

I was so very sad to learn that Beverley passed away. She was a neighbour of mine on Atwater Ave. and it was such a pleasure chatting with her. She was always beautifully dressed and exuded such joie de vie. A real classy lady!

Andrew and Sean, I remember fondly your family. Your mum was especially kind, on more than one occassion she helped a member of our four footed clan find their way home. I remember great adventures around Mount Pleasant with a reward or two of snacks chez the Sofins. I remember your mum as kind, gentle, patient and one of the "cool" parents.
May your happy memories be vivid and her spirit live on through you and the grand children.
Namaste.

Dear Andrew and Sean, I was saddened to hear of your mother's death. She was a remarkable woman. Your Mum’s kindness and generosity and how she had this way of making you feel welcome is what I remember the most about your Mum, though I hadn’t seen her in years. She was truly one in a million. You and your families are in my thoughts and prayers.
