MEDNICK--Blanche Amy. On the Sunny, warm, birdsong morn of May 21, Blanche Amy Mednick died in her Monterey home, concluding a brief, heroic battle against cancer and a life dedicated to the education of children, the salvaging of forgotten pets, and the expression of thought through her poetry, prose, and playwrighting. No stranger to the worst life can offer, Blanche marshalled her son Brian through the final years of his young adult life, an early victim of the AIDS pandemic, and later co-produced the film 'Tuesday Night', a documentary about the Mothers support group she so valued. In time she left the green hills of Brooklyn's Prospect Park for the greener hills of upstate New York (which meant learning to drive at the age of forty...), and, later, for Massachusetts where she and her dog Sadie had often to fend off bears in the backyard (well, maybe once...). She never missed the city; this was home.
