Bob Eugene Bollinger, age 88 of Zirconia, died Sunday, October 1st, 2017 at Hendersonville Health and Rehabilitation. He was born March 4th, 1929 in Iredell County; the youngest of eight children of the late Grover Macon Bollinger and Mary Josephine Starr Bollinger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Carroll Breman Bollinger, Sr. and by six sisters, Rachel Bollinger Brown, Helen Bollinger Bost, Sarah Bollinger Utz, Annie Bollinger Miller, Ruby Bollinger Hobbs and Mary Elizabeth Bollinger.
He graduated from Scotts High School in Scotts, N.C. where he was a member of the F.F.A. He retired from G.E. Aviation in Wilmington, N.C. following many years of employment. He enjoyed fishing, farming, woodworking and camping and loved to share the bounties of his garden. He also enjoyed drawing and painting as a young man and was an avid collector of Carnival glass.
He is survived by his loving wife, Geneva Bollinger; two sons, Gene Bollinger and his wife, Pam and Steven Bollinger and his wife, Valerie; one daughter, Amy Bollinger; two step-daughters, Elizabeth W. Corn and Judy Ward Baker and her husband, Terry; one step-son, James P. Ward; four grandchildren, Jeff Bollinger and his wife, Becky, Andrew Bollinger and his wife, Haven, Nathan Bollinger and Ryan Bollinger and his wife, Christina; five great-grandchildren, Liam, Willow, Kylea, Oliver and Samantha; six step-grandchildren, Jennifer C. Dyer and her husband, Jim, Matthew Allen Henson and his wife, Amber, Angela C. Whelchel and her husband, Walter, Amanda H. Baker and her husband, Jason, Lindsey W. Rogers and her husband, Jacoby and Christina W. Kyle and her husband, Michael; and by numerous step-great grandchildren. He was lovingly called Grand Bob by his grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 5th, 2017 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, of which he was a member, officiated by Pastor Steven Blanton. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Statesville, N.C.
His family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Ebenezer Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in Bob's memory be directed to Ebenezer Baptist Church, 2557 Chimney Rock Road, Hendersonville, NC 28792.
