Bob Caruthers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 24 to May 26, 2002.
CARUTHERS, BOB
Bob was a native Sacramentan, born on May 8, 1934, in the county hospital and passing on May 23, 2002, in his home with his family. He was educated in local schools and spent his career with the State Department of General Services, Division of Printing. Bob loved his family, his friends, and his country. His greatest passion was driving muscle cars as fast and as far as possible. He also loved motorcycling, houseboating, lake fishing, camping, and snowmobiling in the La Porte mountain area. Upon his retirement from state service in 1988, he joined the Golden Seniors Softball League, where he often played five to seven games a week, in addition to umpiring. In this organization, he developed many close friendships, providing not only camaraderie, but also support as his cancer progressed. Bob was an avid student of United States wars, collecting volumes of historical books, tapes, and memorabilia. Bob leaves his wife, Marilyn; four children and their spouses- Debra and husband Frank Sanchez, Robert, Jr. and wife Mary, Stephen and wife Sheila, and Lori and husband Ron Packer; and eight grandchildren: Rachel, Nicholas, Stephen, Amanda, Natalie, Korey, Erik and Emily. Bob was extremely proud of his family's accomplishments and enjoyed bragging about his grandchildren's respective academic and sporting successes. Bob's friends and family are invited to a celebration of his life on Saturday, June 1, 2002, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, at the family home. Remembrances may be made to the charity of choice.
