Bradley Monk Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 18, 2019.
March 5, 1975 - February 13, 2019
Bradley Alan Monk, affectionately known to his nephews as Uncle Payaso, received his wings on February 13, 2019.

Brad was born March 5, 1975, in Bryan, Texas, and married the love and light of his life, Abby Feuerbacher, on May 17, 2008. Brad and Abby lived in Cedar Park, Texas.

Brad loved the outdoors, football, and playing with his dog, Bruno. His favorite place was his family's lake house on Lake LBJ. One of Brad's greatest joys was spending time with his nephews.

He graduated from San Antonio John Marshall High School in 1993 and served in the United States Navy. Brad earned two Bachelor's Degrees from Texas State University. During his time there he created the Texas State fierce Bobcat athletic logo, also known as SuperCat, and is acknowledged on the school's website. He also created the Bobcat kids' club logo, Boko.

Brad worked for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) as an Environmental Investigator. He was a Member of the Austin Region Disaster Response Strike Team and was deployed in that role during disasters such as the West explosion and Hurricane Harvey.
Prior to his time at TCEQ he worked at San Jacinto Materials, which sparked an interest in geology and prompted him to seek his second degree. Brad was a man of service and enjoyed volunteering at Rodeo Austin.

Preceded in death by his grandparents, Troy and Ann Monk, and Marvin and Dorothy Migl; Uncle Michael Migl, Uncle Robin Monk, Aunt Kathy Pam Monk, and cousin, Kyle Ashley.

He is survived by wife, Abigail Monk; parents Kevin and Mary Monk; brother Jeremy Monk and his wife, Kimberly, and their sons, Mason and Landon; brother Zachary Monk and his wife, Nikki, and their son, Logan; in-laws Hap and Zoe Feuerbacher; sister-in-law Carly Hewett and her husband, Clayton, and their son, Carter; numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, including lifelong friends, the Potter Family.

A memorial service will be held at Bethany United Methodist Church located at 10010 Anderson Mill Rd, Austin, TX 78750 on Wednesday, February 20th at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers and to honor Brad's giving spirit, donations can be made to the Fisher House Foundation, 12300 Twinbrook Parkway, Suite 410, Rockville, MD 20852, or a charity of your choice.

My Brother Brad, it's been a few years since you've been gone, and I still miss you bud. I still feel your presence every once in a awhile when I hear your favorite songs come up back to back on the radio while I'm driving. Then I know you are there in the passenger seat just having taking a ride like old times.
I met Brad at Helotes elementary along with most of the Helotes boys at the end of the Summer of 1985. I thought I met Ricky Schroeder from Silver Spoons. Lol.
Us Helotes boys hung out every chance we could. From riding our bikes around, to playing football in the Helotes field, or playing a game of basketball down at the school courts. Brad was usually one of the ring leaders, organizing these activities. Brad was the buddy who checked with everyone to see how they were doing or if they were looking down, he'd ask what the story was. If Brad was in the same room of kid brothers or sisters, he was like a magnet to these kids. It was unreal how kids felt super comfortable around Brad. Maybe it was because he'd start the game of peek a boo or quick draw with a smile and a laugh. Whichever case it was, Brad always had a welcoming demeanor to him no matter who you were. I still remember the night before he left to bootcamp like it was yesterday. We were sitting at the kettle restaurant off of 35 North and 410, and he was nervous, but eager to see the world. We talked that night about John Wayne movies and how cool it's going to be to check out different cultures and far away lands. Brad was and still is a very empathetic, caring, loving and genuine soul. I'm very blessed and fortunate to have grown up with Brad. He welcomed me into his warm home and adopted me like another brother. As my family did with him. My family mourns for Brad leaving us so soon, and he is in our prayers. Brad Monk made me and the Helotes crew better people growing up around him and he'll forever be in our thoughts, prayers and hearts. Peace be with you and your family Brad.

Our all powerful God and Heavenly Father holds Brad safely until we
Meet again in the heavenly realm .
Kevin & Mary , you are the epitome of “gods plan for earthly parents”. Brad was blessed by the most loving and caring family and community one could ever wish for.
I’ve often pondered on the saying “if God doesn’t want us, nothing can take us, but if God wants us, nothing will delay our returning to our Heavenly Father.
I am blessed and and privileged to be a part of your Divine Plan. Our years and journey have been one that we know ans feel Gods presence.
I love you and I know - In God We trust.

I too am deeply saddened to hear of Brad's passing. I was one of his professors at Texas State, but we also had a special connection I consider a friendship. Just a few months ago we had discussed getting together in San Marcos, when he had a chance. On another site several of the students who went along with Brad to Big Bend with my 2011 class are expressing their condolences as well--a tribute to how well liked Brad was. I was fortunate to have known him. My condolences to his wife and family.

Brad was very loved and well respected in our TCEQ family. He will be missed so much by all of us. I will miss his friendship, his hard work, and his smile.

Words can't express the pain and the hurt our family feels for the loss of such a wonderful friend. Our family loved and enjoyed Brad's sense of humor and that big smile he wore when in our presence. He became one of my son's best friends and one of the circle of friends that visited our home. He was a joker and was alwqys witty. He used to tease my youngest kids by calling them "Chili Bowl Head" because of the haircuts I use to give them so in turn they would call him "Chili Bowl head". We will miss him greatly. May he rest in peace in the presence of our Lord. Until we meet again "Chili Bowl Head"

Brad was always a great guy. I remember he was nice to me when I was "his friend's little sister" and "the daughter if his parent's friends." He was nice to his brothers, I could see the love even when I was young. He was kind to animals and I am glad we had a chance to reconnect a little recently. My heart goes out to his family, the Monks are wonderful people and they raised an amazing man.
