Bruce Bockelman Obituary
Bruce is survived by his wife of 46 years Elizabeth C. (Lohrmann) Bockelman, daughters and sons-in-law Megan (Bockelman) and Brian Applegate, Stephanie (Bockelman) and Tim Wilocki, son and daughter-in-law Evan and Kelsey Bockelman, sister Lynn (Bockelman) Wood, and his five grandchildren, Austin, Peyton, Logan, Fiona, and Dylan who knew him lovingly as "Popsie." He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents Robert A. Bockelman and Audrey L. (Schroeder) Bockelman.
Bruce was raised in Forest Park, IL, moved to Elmhurst, IL and then to Downers Grove, IL when he was 14. He attended the University of Illinois and earned a BS degree in finance. He married Elizabeth on December 17, 1977. As a loving and devoted father, Bruce, alongside Elizabeth, raised their children - Megan (1982), Stephanie (1984), and Evan (1986) - in Naperville, IL.
Bruce developed an impressive career as a marketing consultant for investment managers with SEI Investments Company, Callan Associates, Henderson Group, AMG Managers Group, and his own two companies Bockelman Holden Group and Bockelman Parkhill Group, from 1977 until his retirement in 2014.
He was a beloved and caring friend to many, who enjoyed sharing his quick-witted puns, enthusiasm for collecting cars, wine, and music, with a love for traveling, science fiction, and weather.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024 from 3:00 - 8:00 pm at the Elmwood Funeral Chapel 11300 W. 97th LN. (1/2 block west of US 41/Wicker Ave. at 97th LN.) St. John.
Visitation and Celebration of Life services will take place on Friday, October 11, 2024 from 9:30 am until time of service at 10:30 am DIRECTLY at Trinity Lutheran Church 250 S. Indiana Ave. Crown Point, IN. 46373. Interment Maplewood Cemetery, Crown Point. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Bruce's name. Bruce you have crossed "The Finish Line of Life" way too soon! You must have heard that there were some long time track friends waiting to welcome you! Rest easy my friend. You were such a special guy and I will treasure memories of Road America, picnics at your home with your beautiful wife Liz and the family, the ///M5's, as well as that awful week together in Germany in 2001! It was all quite a ride! Enjoy the rest now and know that you were loved beyond measure. You will be missed forever and say hi to Marc for me please!

Liz, I extend my heartfelt condolences to you and your family! We can only take comfort in knowing Bruce is no longer in pain. His long days of suffering are over, but his spirit will watch over his family forever.
Lynn, the pain in your heart may sometimes seem too great. Try to think of Bruce smiling down from Heaven and telling you it's okay; he's happy and at peace with our Lord!

Although I only knew Bruce briefly, I found him to be a very good man. Bruce loved his family and was a loyal friend to many. He was one of those people who, once you met him, you met a new friend. Bruce will be missed by all who knew him! Rest in peace, my friend, for now, you dwell in the house of our Lord for always.

I still have the picture Andy's Mom took of Andy Mark, you and me at our High School graduation weekend up at Lake Geneva. You filled the whole weekend with laughter. I'm so glad Andy introduced me to such a good friend.
