Bryan,
You were a gentle soul and friend in all meanings of the word. You were a pleasure to know, friendly and inviting. You touch the lives of all who came in your path, long term and just recently. School is sometimes hard for some people, but you were one who helped lifted spirits up for me. I remember our conversations in Biology class and that funny moment driving you home that one day. I am very happy I got to connect with you again, even for a short period on Facebook. My prayers and thoughts are with you, your family and all of your many close and dear friends. I am so proud to have known you, there will never be another Bryan Kanu Mayes, heart and soul. Rest In Peace my friend.

Bryan,

I remember you from the first day you attended SPICE. You stood out... you had a strong life force... you seemed very independent.... a survivor.... and big smiling eyes.

Your body seemed very flexible almost like you were loosely wired together.... and a very easy going demeanor.

You had a warm open heart... and seemed to care for everyone whether they were cool or not... young or old... fully abled or disabled. I feel you and I had some kind of connection, maybe everyone had that feeling about you... you were easy to be with...

I hope you found joy in the few years you had.

My wife Terri and I feel sad that you are gone.

Dear Mayes Family,
I cannot begin to express my sorrow over your loss. Bryan was a special young man, and he brightened my days at Northwestern Elementary and later at the Middle School for ten years. I was so delighted by his visit to me at my last Open House Book Fair in 2009...his smile lit up the room. He truly was a gift to all of us. He will never be forgotten.
