Bryant Rice, Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 10, 2014.
Bryant Burk Rice Jr., 76, of Conroe, Texas entered into eternal life on July 9, 2014 with his family by his side. He was born on May 21, 1938 to BB and Dorothy Rice, and raised in Conroe where he took great pride in his Conroe heritage. Bryant graduated from Conroe High School where he lettered in football, basketball and track. After high school he attended Blinn Jr. College and Sam Houston University. He then served in the US Army where he received
numerous commendations including the prestigious Colonel's Orderly as well as an excellence in marksmanship award. He was honorably discharged in 1962. Bryant went on to start his career, owning and operating several small businesses. In 2000, he began to slow down and would say that he was tired, so it must be time to retire, in which he did in 2001. Bryant's greatest loves were his family and friends. He adored his pets and had a passion for
the outdoors. In his later years he enjoyed getting away and spending time at his farm in Crockett where he could often be found on a tractor, tending cows or farming. He was an avid hunter who loved fishing, woodworking and gardening. He took pride in his garden and shared his harvest with family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Elaine Rice House. Bryant is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte Harrison Rice; his son Shane Rice and wife Teresa of Montgomery; daughter Ashlea Rice Griffin and husband Todd of Cypress; grandchildren Corey, Morgan and Alex Griffin, Blake and Zach Knight; sister Patricia Hensley of Castlepines, CO; nephew Scott Hensley and familly of Castlepines, CO; niece Margie Smith and husband Jonathon of Houston, and other numerous family members and friends. Bryant touched our lives forever, and will be greatly missed. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Metcalf Funeral Home in Conroe with the memorial service starting at 10 a.m. Lunch will follow immediately afterwards at West
Conroe Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Dementia Foundation in Bryant's honor. You are invited to leave written condolences for the family on our website at http://www.dignitymemorial.com.

As a young girl I grew up in Sunset Ridge Subdivision living close to the Rice's. Always such a wonderful family. Many memories, so sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear of Bryant's death. My parents, the Drennans and Dorothy and BB Rice were good friends and we spent many happy weekends at the farm in Iola when we were young with Bryant, Elaine and Patricia. We rode horses from sunrise to sunset. Dorothy and my mother, Ruby, cooked on a wood stove. We kids would go to sleep listening to Ed, Ruby, Dorothy and BB laugh and play bridge. Happy times. My thoughts and prayers go to the family members.

Bryant was a friend for many years. Although I haven't seen him for some time, I still remember smiling every time I saw him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

We are sorry that we won't be able to be at the services for Bryant. Ken's back has been troubling him, and a car trip to and from Conroe would not be good for him. Please accept our condolences and know that we are praying for peace and comfort for the whole family. We are so sorry for your loss.
