Buddy Russell Hembree

Virginia Beach - Buddy Russell Hembree went to his Lord on October 5th, 2017. Born September 20, 1937 in Maud, Oklahoma, Buddy was the seventh child of parents Lester Farrow Hembree and Loyce Palma Wood, who proceeded him in death. Buddy enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1954, in Duncan, OK and completed Recruit Training at Great Lakes, IL. Over his 20 year career, he advanced through the ranks and retired as an Unrestricted Line Officer, Lieutenant JG.

Upon retirement, Buddy worked for DeVal Corporation as Director of Operations and retired with 20 years of loyal service.

All throughout his life, Buddy gave to others. He was a member of the VB Rescue Squad 1976-1983, a VB Little League Coach, Manager and President 1967-1977, a life member of the Association of Aviation Ordnancemen and has been with the Military Officers Association of America since 1967.

In 2001, Buddy retired from all employment and focused his attention on his family.

Buddy married the former Barbara Ann Flanagan of Virginia Beach June 1957. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Buddy is survived by his wife Barbara, his son Robert, his wife Melissa Farrar and children Adam Hembree and Devin Farrar; daughter Lee Ann Lineberry, her husband Ed and children Ashley Paul and her daughter Aaleah, Andrew Paul, Aaron Paul and Alex Paul. He is also survived by one sister, Billye Jean Sepcich of Abbeville, LA, as well as extended family in LA and OK.

A graveside funeral will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, October 11, 2017. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the VB Rescue Squad. Condolences may be left at www.altmeyerfh.com
