Carl Smick

Carl W. Smick, 77, of Carlyle, Ill., formerly of Granite City, Ill., born April 13, 1938 in Pocahontas, Ark., passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at home surrounded by family.

Carl worked and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad in St. Louis, Mo., after more than 25 years of service. He was a member and held many positions within the United Transportation Union Local 1405. He was a member of Wisetown Baptist Church in Greenville, Ill. He and his wife, Kathy, enjoyed going to Branson, Mo.,and went almost every year for their anniversary. He enjoyed shopping, bartering for the best price, and going out to eat. He also loved to work in his yard. Most of all, he enjoyed times spent with his family and storytelling; passing his life experiences onto his children and grandchildren. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Louise, nee Reed, Smick; and a daughter, Karla French.

Surviving are his loving wife of 50 years, Katherine M. Smick, nee Hasty, of Carlyle, Ill.; his children, Sheila (Dennis) Frailey, Teri (Bob) Chinn, Ken Meagher, Don (Lucy) Meagher, Debbie Smick, and Keith (Carolyn) Smick; a son-in-law, David French; his 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 17, 2015, at the funeral home, with Pastor Tom Rankin officiating. Interment will follow in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Ill.
