CIROCCO
CARMEL JAMES "CARL"
Peacefully on October 20, 2012 of N.S., long time resident of the 25th Ward, Carl was born April 2, 1921 in Reed, PA to William Cirocco and Mary (Disderato). Carl was one of ten children. A child of the Great Depression, Carl was an honor student at Allegheny High School and had a distinguished military career. A graduate of U.S. Army Bomb Disposal Aberdeen, MD, serving in the Asia Pacific Theater in WWII from 02/13/43 to 06/27/45. He received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. Carl was featured in the book, "Nine from Aberdeen" by Jeffrey M. Leatherwood, which was just released this year, in honor of the 109th Bomb Disposal Squadron. Those who saw the 2009 movie, "The Hurt Locker" may envision the "Nine from Aberdeen" were the pioneers of the U.S. E.O.D. (Explosive Ordinance Device). Following World War II, Carl was with the Bureau of Building Inspection where he rose to chief building inspector. This gave rise to many friends affectionately referring to him as chief. He retired from the Bureau in 1983. Carl was a longtime member of St. Peter's R.C. Church where he volunteered running the church bingo for 20 years and was also an usher. Carl loved sports and golf, but his favorite past time was his annual trip every fall with friends to Rice Lake, Peterborough, Canada where he would catch huge musky and bring a supply back home for an annual dinner. Carl loved his Italian ancestry and would listen to Mario Lanza records as he grilled in the backyard. Most of all, Carl loved spending time with his family. Survived by his beloved wife of over 64 years, Ann M. Cirocco; loving father of Patricia Ann (Charles) Cullinane of Rockford, IL, Monica Ann (James) Dugan of Maumee, OH, Laurita Ann (Robert) Bergner of Dublin, CA, Julie Ann (Leroy) Smith of West View, PA, and Alex "Alex Frederick" (Lisa) Cirocco of Venetia, PA; his surviving sibling is Joseph Cirocco, of Apollo, PA; also survived by ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation Wednesday, October 24 from 3-7 p.m. at STEPHEN M. BRADY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 920 Cedar Ave., N.S. (across from A.G.H.). Funeral Mass St. Peter's R.C. Church, Thursday, October 25 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter's R.C. Church or the USO at www.uso.org, who support our troops.

Monica and Ann...I am so sorry for your loss. I just happened upon this quite by accident. We will keep you in our prayers and in our thoughts. God Bless all of you. Monica, please give your mom my love. She was always so kind to my mom and Louie III and myself. I haven't seen you since our days at Domenec.

My sincere condolences to the whole family. I have nothing but great memories of uncle Carmel and always enjoyed my visits with him and aunt Ann from when I was a little boy to the last time I was back home in 2007. I'm sorry I couldn't make it back. With love Bob

As Carl's only son in which he waited patiently for after 4 daughters; my father could not do the things a younger father could do; since he was 43. However, I sincerely enjoyed what many other thousands of others experienced with Dad's enrichment of words and wisdom, and when not speaking, knowing that he was truely listening full of empathy and sympathy always.

I will always have fond memories of my Uncle Carl. His Sunday morning visits to see his sister Kate, have a cup of coffee and discuss the world affairs with my dad are among my most cherished childhood memories.

I remember many Christmas seasons when it didn't feel complete until we visited Uncle Carl and Aunt Anne.

My Dad, he was truely an amazing man.No matter where we went he could make friends.

I was always shy about going places where I did not know anyone. But Dad would say "everyone wants to feel special, just listen and you will be fine"! It always worked.

Dad I love you and miss you.

Love,
Patty
