News Death Notice

HALLEY, Carolyn Kay (Curtis) 73, formerly from Hartford City, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Bethany Lutheran Village after a 12-year battle with breast cancer. She and her husband moved here in 1993 after retiring from teaching 30 plus years in the Indiana public schools system. Born November 23, 1935 in Bentonville, Indiana, the second daughter of John and Frances (Peterson) Curtis, she graduated from Harrisburg High School, Purdue University (BS), and Ball State University (MA). She and her husband, James, were married August 4, 1957 in Connersville, Indiana. Survivors in addition to her husband are her son Christopher and wife Marla (Risner) Halley, their children Ryan and Aubrey, of Miamisburg. Also, nephews Larry and John Burns, and niece Leann (Burns) Hassler, all of Connersville, Indiana. Preceding her in death are her parents, her only sister Beverly, and oldest son Michael. Visitation will be from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at the Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 N. High Street, Hartford City, Indiana where services will be held Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Kenneth Mahanes, pastor of Lost Tree Chapel, North Palm Beach, Florida officiating. An additional visitation will be held one hour prior to services from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Graveside rites and burial will follow funeral services in the Bentonville Cemetery, Bentonville, Indiana. In place of flowers, you may honor her life with contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105, Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton OH 45420, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Tobias Funeral Home - Far Hills Chapel. Online condolences may be made at www.tobiasfuneralhome.com.

Jim..so sorry to hear of Carolyn's passing. We often talk about our friends from H.C. and the great times we had with deCycles.
Seems like the years have flown by with great memories but it does bring back some grevious times when you lost Mike & our Kevin.
We will continue to remember you all in prayer

To the family of Mrs. Halley, I remember the sorrow she went through when she lost her son in the car wreck. I remember worrying about her, I know that she is with him now, she was a great teacher and person, my prayers are with you.

to the family of carolyn halley it saddens me to read of her death if i remember she lived at commerical / walnut street in Hartford City she was a one of a kind teacher one that i remember as not only one who cared but one that gave you a hug when you needed it most. SEEM LIKE SHE ALWAYS HAD A SMILE i think there was something about her all the kids liked. i offten wondered what ever happened to her i am now 49 yr's old wish i could had gave her one more hug she was such a nice lady. may god be with you at this time of our great lost she will never been foregotten.
